A basic understanding of economics should be requirement to vote in any democracy. A company converts resources into products and services, and "profit" is a measure -- indeed, our only measure -- for how efficiently it does so. If every company in the US had zero profit, we'd have no economy at all. Zero.
At its height, the USSR had the highest number of scientists and engineers in the world, several times that of the US. Soviets put the first man in space, and were sending probes to Venus a decade before the US landed a man on the moon -- yet the entire country couldn't produce jeans for its own citizens -- or most any other consumer good. Because they refused to admit the
necessity of profit for business and industry.

@yRaz will shout "but AI companies aren't making a profit!". I'm invested in several that are indeed turning massive profits ... and most of the rest are following Amazon's initial tactic of sacrificing profits for growth ... a tactic that worked very well.
