No Internet connection...help

Okay...I just reformatted and reinstalled windows on my mom's Compaq Presario SR1550NX. We have cable at the house so the internet is just plug and play. There is no special software required. Just plug in the ethernet cord and open Internet Explorer. Any ideas as to why internet is not working now? It was working on her comp before the install. Is there some setting I have overlooked?

You`ve installed the ethernet card ?

You`ve added the necessary exceptions to the Firewall ?

Click on the Exceptions
Click the Add Program button.
Select the program you’re going to allow to access the Internet from the list.
If it doesn’t appear there, click on the browse button and locate the program on your hard drive.
Once the program has been selected, click the OK button.
The new program should now appear on the list in the Exceptions tab.

You`ve looked HERE ?

You been to your ISPs web site for configuration details ?

It was the crappy Norton...as soon as I disabled it everything was fine.

Glad you fixed it,but don`t disable the Firewall completely,just allow the necessary programs through.

Zone Alarm and AVG are the best replacements for Norcrap.
