Nvidia confirms no RTX 5000 Super series at CES, but gaming announcements are coming

What just happened? In an announcement that comes as a surprise to absolutely no one, Nvidia has confirmed that there will be no new GPUs announced at CES. While this will disappoint anyone who optimistically thought we'd see the RTX 5000 Super series this week, the company did say that there will be several gaming-related announcements.

The official Nvidia GeForce X account posted that the GeForce On community update will be streamed on Nvidia's Twitch channel tonight (January 5) at 9pm PT/12am ET. You can also watch it on the YouTube embed below.

In what is likely a move to stop any speculation, the post also confirms that no new GPUs will be announced.

Rumors that Nvidia was set to unveil the RTX 5000 Super series have been around for a long time. It was believed that the cards would address one of the biggest issues with consumer Blackwell (beyond the prices): the less-than-pleasing amounts of VRAM in the cards. A report in April claimed the Super GPUs could see a 50% increase in VRAM compared to their vanilla versions.

But that was before the tech industry entered a crisis increasingly comparable to the pandemic's disruption. Following previous reports that Nvidia was delaying the RTX 5000 Super series, there were rumors in November that they had been canceled. The reason, of course, is the memory shortage (GDDR7, in this case) caused by AI data center demand.

The post does emphasize that there will be plenty of GeForce-related announcements later today, including the latest features, games, apps, and partner products for gamers and creators.

It seems almost certain that one of the talked-about features will be DLSS 4.5. The update to Nvidia's upscaling tech will supposedly introduce a new, more advanced transformer model trained on a larger dataset, which should deliver better temporal stability, less ghosting, and cleaner anti-aliasing in motion compared to DLSS 4.

DLSS 4.5 will also features Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. This can reportedly vary how many frames are generated per rendered frame, rather than using a fixed number. It could produce anything between 3x and 6x generated frames.

DLSS 4.5 will be available on the RTX 2000 to 5000 series GPUs, while Dynamic 6x Frame Generation will launch in spring 2026 as an RTX 5000 exclusive.

It's rumored that Nvidia could restart production of the Steam survey's top GPU, the RTX 3060, in response to the memory crisis. If true, it's unlikely to be confirmed today – but then the post did say no "new" GPUs were being announced.

On the other hand, just be glad that framegen is the only sh-ite exclusive they've made for overpriced ada and blackwell only, while the real deal DLSS feature updates are available on all Volta generics, starting from Turing.
Or Volta itself?

In contrast to other "gpu race participant", who's 2 year old products are already obsolete, stuck in "legacy" branch...
 
DLSS 5.0 will be hypnosis to convince the player that their stuttering UE5 game is running 500 FPS with full path tracing.
Gamers? Developers are drinking the same kool-aid Borderlands 4 and other Unreal engine projects are heavily dependent on frame generation to mask their incompetence and lack of optimization.

Rumour has it that the 60 series won't launch until 2028 now. NVidia has much lucrative lucre to chase after these days.
 
They know the super cards are best and final form of any generation but they gotta keep the VRAM away from the poors.

Does anyone remember AMDs geforce now alternative? me neither.
 
Why would Nvidia launch anything new for gamers right now? 9700 XT performs below 5070 Ti overall, raster perf included and AMD loses easily in terms of features and support of these. If 9070 XT is not alot cheaper, it makes no sense. Resell value of AMD GPUs are lower as well.

Yes you can find games where 9070 XT beats 5070 Ti slightly but you can also find games where 5070 non-Ti beats 9070 XT. It is called cherrypicking. Look at any decent site using a bunch of new/popular games and 5070 Ti and 9070 XT is close but 5070 Ti tends to win in raster overall and DLSS 4 is still the best upscaler by far with huge game support. Nvidia also have better FG/MFG. Better RT/PT Perf. Better downsamping in DLDSR. Reflex etc. Just vastly better features overall and I have experience with both AMD and Nvidia and know this for a fact. 4090 and 9070 non-XT owner (Main Rig + HTPC)

AMD has been playing catch up for years in both features and general support of these in the games. They are improving, but slowly, almost too slow. Nvidia is several steps ahead for the most part. FSR 4 is the first FSR version I can accept to use, it works well but DLSS 4 is clearly better still and has massive support. FSR 3.1 and older is generally horrible (part of why most/all of Radeon 7000 and older owners, hate upscaling)

DLAA also looks better than FSR Native.
DLDSR beats VSR.

We won't get anything new, before AMD releases something better than 9070 XT. Nvidia has no reason at all to bother, with their +90% gaming GPU marketshare and AI/Enterprise focus.

AMD was stupid to scrap the big RDNA 4 chip. If they actually would have released this, they could have had a 5080 beating card, maybe two (non-XT/XT/XTX).
Imagine a 50-100% bigger RDNA 4 chip with 320-384 or even 512 bit bus with 20-32GB VRAM. It would have been a solid performer in the high-end market, probably would have slotted in between 5080 and 5090 (for the best SKU).

Releasing 5000 SUPER, relying on 3GB GDDR7 modules right now, would be stupid. They could do a paper launch but what would be the point if stock is low or none.

Even regular GDDR7 is a problem, which can be a problem for both Nvidia and AMD very soon. Mostly gamers. Sadly for AMD tho, Nvidia already scooped up tons of modules and secured massive inventory for AI and Enterprise markets. Huang said this officially.

Luckily for AMD, they are a CPU company first and foremost. GPUs are 2nd and gaming GPUs, might even be 3rd or 4th... GPUs for AI/Enterprise and custom APUs (consoles etc) + iGPU development is probably more important than selling cheap dGPUs to gamers ;)
