Thanks for the quick reply!
I tried following that link, it didn't work (.net and .com either) I got a diagonstic from Microsoft(windiag), and ran its 6 tests from a boot disk, is this the same kind of test? In any case, it came up with nothing. Any other thoughts?

Hi Jonr248,

My apology. The url is memtest86.org

cpc2004

I ran the download from memtest: When I did the standard BIOS test, everything was fine, no errors at all. I then ran it in BIOS-ALL mode, and got tens of thousands of errors in the first few minutes. I also started the test in probe mode, but halfway through it had found nothing. Can this be right? With this many errors, I can't imagine my system even booting up. Is BIOS ALL just the wrong kind of test to run on my system?

Hi I posted earlier about BSOD and error ect but no help so far, sorry for this silly question but please could you tell me how i do a minidump, and could anyone please shed any light as to why my PC seems to be very noisy eg it sounds almost like a lawn mower, I hope to send a mini dump (if it`s OK) later to help solve this problem. Thanks for your time.

James

OK I`ve figured out what a minidunp is I have loads in my windows draw named "dump...", please will somebody help me out and translate this for me so I can have some idea as to what is going on with my PC, this is driving me nuts,

thanks in advance

Hi.. I've been having similar problems to some posters. My culprit is ati3duag.dll. I'm running the latest Omega Drivers (my latest attempt to stop the crashes.) It isn't working, responding with a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON-PAGED_AREA stop message every time I try to play some of my games. It doesn't happen when I'm running Windows, just during graphically demanding stuff, like Half-Life 2 (which is practically unplayable at the moment, crashing the system every few minutes or so.) The dumps supplied the last five I have, with the last dump being a test with SMARTGART being uninstalled. The uninstallation however didn't seem to work, as I can still access it via the control panel and 'Run -> SMARTGART'. If you require more, I can provide the five before it too. Sorry if I'm being a hassle, any help would be _greatly_ appreciated.

By the way, I'm running a 2.8GHz Celeron with 512MB of RAM (tested, came out fine with memtest), a Radeon 9200 SE and an ASUS PVX-X (? I think). I _have_ tried all of ATi's recent drivers, and even a few older ones, all to no avail. I'm on my last legs here, and I would _greatly_ appreciated help.

Thanks in Advance!

The problems that are being talked about here remind me of an issue that I once saw under Windows 2000, on a computer that had an AMD CPU; the computer randomly kept locking up, rebooting, or running into a BSOD.

I'm not sure to which extent it applies to Windows XP, so it may not be of any help, but you may want to check out Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 270715 and see if it remedies the problems.

Hi James,
Your Windows crash with bugcheck 7F and BP1 is 0d. Usually it is a hardware error.

please can someone help or at least translate what these minidumps are, (I at last found where the minidumps are kept). I have uploaded my last 4. help much apreciated.

sorry here they are, i forgot to change the filetype extention. I`m really sorry about this folks.

thankyou for your reply cpc2004, do you think having 3 hard drives and a DVD RW could be causing the problem? I have checked and triple checked for any loose connections etc but everything seems OK, I seem to get the BSOD during bouts of my PC becoming very noisy, when I have disabled all services my PC is nice and quiet and I never seem to encounter a BSOD, I have also in the past installed SP2 which gave me enormous problems (albeit no BSOD) I have long since uninstalled it as the thing was more like a virus than an XP enhancement, do you think there could be traces of the SP2 still in my system which is cauising it? I also had Norton Antivirus installed which is now uninstalled, I have heard this can cause problems if it is not uninstalled properly but I believ I have done it correctly. I hope someone can help.

help with page faults and other BSODs

I have been having similar problems as others in this thread. I'm hoping the experts here can give me an idea of what do so next other than replacing components.

Below is a summary of my machine. I mainly get BSODs when trying to edit/render video but also go through periods of seemingly random BSODs.
I have attached some of my most recent minidumps in the hopes someone can give me a hand.

I have run just about every diagnostic tool I can find (including memtest86) and everything checks out. I have also run the system with just the primary hard drive and the ATI card but the error still occurs.

Hi CPC2004,

you think you could check my minidump.

I've been getting this error now every morning after I boot up my PC. Sometimes I get the BAD POOL CALLER error too. But it mostly happens in the first 5 minutes after I booted up and am working in XP.

But I mostly get the error once a day and then it never comes back untill the next day. My guess it's software related but I have no clue what to look for.

Maybe you can find the culptit. TIA

Max

Cpc you might remember checking out some of my minidumps, i eventually discovered there was a problem with my cpu, after some extensive testing.
The tool i used to find the problem was Hot cpu tester. It was quite well hidden though, because sometimes it couldnt find it even after 36 passes!
At last, i got a cpu error, stating that there was a matrix mismatch or something in one of the tests.I managed to get that error three times, but i had to run WAY to many gours for the errors to occur.
I sent my 3.2 ghz intel cpu with my asus motherboard back to my supplier, and now i'm waiting my pci express video card, to fire up my pc with my new amd 64 3500+ and asus a8n motherboard.
I'll keep you updated, i hope i dont have any further problems because i'm gonna throw the pc out of the window and go live on an island in the middle of the ocean.

thanks cpc2004

thanks for checking the dumps. I'll look into getting a replacement processor.
at first the checks always said it was a driver error, but now finally getting some cpu errors.

CPC,

thx for your technical expertise.

It's much appreciated.

I don't have any BSD anymore and I don't have any errors anymore in my event viewer. I did find the culprit.

thx.

Hi Max,

I don't how do you fix the problem. I've just studied your dump and it is hardware error as there have memory corruption at windows hal (Hardware Abstraction layer).

Hi CPC,

thx for getting back to me.

As I stated before thx again for your technical expertise.

I started reading through all the threads and I noticed your thread saying to uninstall the latest nvidia drivers to the 61.77 version. I was running version 67.71 for a long time without any problems. I upgraded to 71.84 not long ago and as a matter of fact just before the problems of BSD started appearing. I didn't think of this off course since I did install several different software and updates until I did read your thread. I then did a full uninstall of the nvidia drivers (manual uninstall of the registry and any dll or sys that was related to nvidia in XP). I installed the 61.77 drivers and apparently it fixed the problem. I even used to have lots of different event ID errors in my system and applications log and it didn't make any sense. Now I don't have any log error anymore. I didn't have a clue that a faulty or unstable driver could make such a mayhem. It's been running steady now for 3 consecutive days and I just feel it's fixed now.

Thx again.

Max

BSOD Nightmare

Hello,

I am having some very similar BSOD problems as some people in this thread. here is a summary of my experience, hope it helps.

One day, my computer decided to reboot in
the middle of a game. WOW, COOL, AWESOME. But thats not all. It
rebooted and ran fine, but every once in a blue moon it would hard
reboot at random for no apparent reason. Recently, it has gotten really
bad, and the computer will not run for longer than 5 minutes before
dying, regardless of load. In fact, all this hard booting has messed with
the operating system files, and even after reformatting the computer
continues to blue screen during windows XP installation
.

Nothing is overheating, and all the hardware is physically
secure. I started troubleshooting and...
This is what I wound up replacing:

1) the harddrive with a fresh 40gb drive and windows XP install

2) the power supply with a 485w Noisetaker

3) the motherboard with a P4C800E-Deluxe

4) the RAM with two Corsair TwinX 512 DDR400

5)
the cpu heatsink with a gigantic copper heat draining monster.

STILL HARD REBOOTING LIKE EVER.

Literally the only thing that has not been replaced is the CPU.
Behold, my powers of deduction!!!
I am going to replace it tomorrow, and will keep you posted.

- Kev Burns

I've noticed you haven't replaced your graphic card yet..
Could be the culprit
Just my 2 cents

Hope this helps.

Graphics Card

Oh ya,

Replaced graphics card as well :p

For a while i actually thought it was the graphics card's fault
(ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128) So i slapped in a junker that I knew
was working fine and I'm still having problems. I'm going to
under-clock my cpu tonight to see if that doesn't fix it.
Wish me luck!

-Kev
