Paramount+ is offering a free one-month subscription for the holidays

In brief: We’ll cut right to the chase – ViacomCBS is offering new subscribers a free one-month trial to its Paramount+ subscription video on-demand streaming service for the holidays. The offer ends on January 3, so you’ll want to redeem it by then.

ViacomCBS launched the service as CBS All Access in late 2014, and rebranded it as Paramount+ earlier this year. While its catalog isn’t nearly as deep as say, Netflix, the service does offer some original content that you can’t find anywhere else including the new made-for-TV movie South Park: Post Covid, 1883 and Star Trek: Discovery as well as Hollywood hits like Interstellar, A Quiet Place, World War Z and Transformers: Age of Extinction.

Paramount+ offers two tiers. The essential plan with limited commercial interruption normally goes for $4.99 per month, or $49.99 a year, while the premium tier (which still has a few commercials) is $9.99 per month, or $99.99 annually.

Using the promo code PEAKSALE, you’ll be able to choose either plan. As always, you’ll also want to make sure and cancel before the one-month mark, otherwise you’ll be billed at the standard aforementioned rate.

Paramount also offers a 25 percent discount on its essentials plan for verified students. What's more, T-Mobile is still running a promo in which new and existing subscribers (including Sprint customers) can score a one-year subscription to Paramount+ essentials for free.

If you do get this subscription, beware that only the website is relatively stable. Every app I've tried from them is pretty buggy. On PS4 for instance, every movie I've watched on Paramount+ cuts off in the last 10-15 minutes and will not play any further than that (I've tried everything). I've never made it to the credits, but it's usually pretty close.

Also, when you go to cancel the service they typically offer a free month of subscription if you instead let it resume. If you take advantage of this, make sure you set an alarm to cancel it again later because it will start charging you money again after that month ends.

Overall unless you have something you want to watch only on Paramount+, it's better to stay away from it.

The PS4 app may be buggy but the website, XBox and Roku apps have worked for me without issue for more than a year.

Nvidia Shield too. Very reliable since the first CBS All Access days.

@Plutoisaplanet - Does PS4 have a way to check and force an update? Maybe that is all it needs.

One of he reasons I have joined Netflix (and Amazon Prime) is that there is no commercials, at all. And here they don't have an option even for a commercial-free package? Hard pass for me.
(though, in all fairness, I wasn't particulalry keen to have a third platform anyway...this just nailed it)

The premium plan does not have commercial interruptions during the movie/show. Sometimes they promote another show before getting to the feature, similar to what Amazon occasionally does.

Thanks for the link I just had a look, and found this in the description: "Please note that live TV streams have commercials, and a few shows include brief promotional interruptions to keep you in the loop on new and upcoming Paramount+ programming."
So it is not that bad: if iis indeed like Amazon, that is OK.
