Plextor Px-716a Not Recognized

I INSTALLED THE DVD-R PLEXTOR PX-716A,THE BIOS AND THE CONTROL PANEL OF THE WINDOWS RECOGNIZE IT BUT WHEN I PUT A CD IN THE DVD
THE SCREEN TURNS BLUE AND A MESSAGE APPEARS:

MACHINE CHECK EXCEPTION
CHECK YOUR HARDWARE ...etc
CHECK THE CABLE CONNECTIONS...etc
STOP:0X0000009C(0X00000004,0X80545FF0,0XB2000000,OX00070F0F)

I TRIED TO UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE FROM PLEXTOR BUT THE RESULT WAS THE SAME

Did you use the 80-pin cable that came with the drive? If not ue this cable as it ensures reliable data xfers. Secondly pull the cable and ensure that there are o bent pins etc and that the cable was inserted correctly. FIonally is this the first or second drive on the chain (master or slave)? How do you have the jumper configured? Does it match? What about Device Manager, is it showing the drive correctly?

Finally the manual describes a way to conduct an internal selftest and test burn. It does not require the 80-pin cable to be connected, merely power. Check this to see if you have a defective unit. My first unit was bad but the replacement drive works like a charm.
