Problems with Sony Vaio Screen

I have a Sony Vaio BX563-B. I have encountered a black screen; no matter what I seem to do, I cannot get it to light. It seems to be getting power (the fan runs, the CD drive spins, etc.) but regardless of whether on battery power or AC, I cannot get it to respond.

I have run the computer on battery until exhausted, allowed the machine to recharge, and still no result. Help?

Either the backlight or inverter has failed. You need to replace one or the other, and there are only24 screws of four different sizes to remove and reinstall... but it is the screw covers that are the difficult part on a Sony.
