Quantum Break on PC requires Windows 10, DirectX 12

As someone who has 2 gaming PCs, and 2 Xbox Ones this great news. First off Windows 10 is free, if you don't like that price, you're the crazy one. Then the PC version is free. Remember up until last week this was an Xbox Exclusive title that if you have an XBO you were probably already getting for it. Now you can play it on PC as well at NO EXTRA COST. Saved games can be shared between PC and XBO so it's easy to pickup your game in another room. If all games could have this feature that'd be fantastic. I'd much rather have 1 gaming PCs and several Xboxes as it's much cheaper than a gaming PC for every room.

If you don't want to take what's being offered for FREE to play on the platform that is optimized for this game, that's your call. People still using Win 7 are the same people 5 years ago that were still clinging to XP. If you prefer using Windows based PCs you will be upgrading every 2-3 years to keep up with current tech. MS will no longer support dying OSes (5+ years old.) They refuse to have the WinXP issue again which kept PCs stagnant for years. The point is, if you don't want to stay up to date, you will be left behind, but that's your call, and never have you been able to catch up to modern tech at NO additional cost to you.

I think were all forgetting something very important here, piracy is clearly killing the PC gaming industry, it has nothing to do with forcing you to upgrade to Windows 10 to get full advantage of DX12, even if Windows 7 could technically be updated to the new API standard. When Vista did it with DX10 it made sense, the OS was not based entirely on XP like Windows 10 is based on 8.1/7/Vista, Microsoft is just upset with how poorly sales are despite the hype they attempted to generate towards Windows 10. So they turn their attention towards gamers, those of us without the choice if we want to stay up to date with the latest games and new features WILL be FORCED to switch over, those saying **** like "Stop crying and just don't buy it." just don't realize this is the beginning of the end for gamers on the now "Old" OS, deemed so by Microsoft and Microsoft alone. I'm at odds with whether to hold the developer at fault, to a certain extent, yes you can solely based on the fact they don't wish to spend time porting the game over to DX11, which in all fairness makes sense, they want to release a single version of their title designed to look as good as it can, this is a good thing. Microsoft not developing an update for Windows 7 to support DX12, that I can more confidently say is the **** move.
It ultimately is the developer's call. They know they are restricting themselves to a small fraction of the marketplace considering the share held by Win7 users.

I am a little confused about your claim that piracy is killing the PC gaming industry - to be honest I would think piracy nowadays would be far lower due to marketplaces like Steam and online gaming prevalence.

Yep typical Microsoft forcing people to buy their products, just for gaming. I remember they did this with Halo 2. Had to upgrade (what it really was, is a downgrade) to Windows Vista. I was a sucker then. I was really into the Halo series and installed Win Vista and remember what a total failure Vista was?

Then adding insult to injury, Microsoft then pulled the Halo series from PC and made it Xbox exclusive! I know I will have to go to Win 10 eventually, I think we all will. All software does evolve, including operating systems. But I really hate Microsoft for their Blackmailing practices!

It's not blackmail.... The game is for XBOX.... Playing it on Win 10 is a free bonus... If you don't want to be forced into getting Windows 10 (which is a free upgrade), just play it on your XBOX...

Unless you have an XBOX 360 and are furious that MS is blackmailing you into upgrading to the XBOX One....

Nothing is a "Free" bonus from Microsoft! Hahaha, Sorry trying to stop laughing! So, you think with Microsoft's past failed Operating Systems (Vista, Win 8) had nothing to do with them bringing Quantum Break to PC? Wow, Microsoft loves customers like you. Just shut up and buy our products! Hehehe, sorry still laughing. Out of the goodness of Microsoft's Black Hearts, they are giving me an Xbox game on my PC??? Nope, not on this planet! Their intentions are clear, well, at least to some of us.

I'm still po'd they forced me to upgrade from my Sega Genesis.

To the uneducated; NOTHING is free... Dig a bit deeper. 10 has a ton of data collection which is the real piracy of this decade. Also what facebook and google make their money on and I spend a considerable time avoiding. Due to this, there is zero room for windows 10 right now until 1) it can be for-sure disabled in all forms and 2) update can be also blocked.. I update what I need and I inspect all "security" updates before install. I am not the sheep of the world that does whatever M$ tells them too just cause it was 'free'.

It IS free... Just because you believe their intentions are malevolent, doesn't change the nature of the deal - you get the game for Win 10 FREE when you buy it for XBOX... And you get Win 10 FREE if you have Win 7 or 8...

You are able to turn off the "spying" options in Win 10, as well as return to manual updates (I've posted how to do so in previous threads, but Google is your friend) if you are paranoid that MS is using your typing info to take over the world (I suspect they're actually using it to improve their own products - which while it will make them more money, will also benefit the end user!).

Again, free is free - you don't like it, no one is forcing this on you...

It's free because it is a doorway to the App store, so you can but their apps and then they make money, it's a logical model and has nothing to do with data collection, which is done by all OS's and apps, and a lot of software. Why would McDonald's charge you to use the door to go buy a burger?
The door is free, the meal will cost you, the OS is free, the apps will cost you.
I always have to laugh when people say data collection is spying, it can only collect what you enter into it. Spyware collects all data and transmits from the hard drive, WX collects what you tell it, and sends it from software, not the drive contents.

Not gonna be very popular on PC I presume. Can anyone recall the title of the game(s) that were Vista only? I know MS made some noise back then about DX10 pros, but some time later they were cracked to work on XP? The same goes for this one. Three years in developement, long before MS thought of DX12.
Halo 2 and Shadowrun

And bioshock.
Windows live *shivers*

Actually windows 10 collects ALLOT more than merely what is stated in the privacy section. It's been proven multiple times that they collect data completely unrelated to the OS, like when they put out a report on what programs users had used and what people did most on windows 10. Here's another article about the insane amount of times windows 10 phones home.

What?? a company that wants to sell you software you want to use based on what software you use collects data on what software you use??? NO way!

The ironic part of this comment is that if everyone really wanted windows 10 they wouldn't have to give it away for free and then enact a bunch of other policies of push people over to the "free" upgrade.

Your point doesn't stand much reasoning as no other Microsoft operating system or rival operating system phones home nearly as much as windows 10.

Now can you cut the sarcasm or is trolling enough to sate your appetite and lessen the weight of any previous comments that had any reason to them?

If you're afraid of data collection on a gaming PC then don't upgrade, that's your call, but don't be upset when games, or other software, aren't brought to older platforms. At the end of the day it's your call what you do, but MS is giving you the option with no financial loss to you. This has never happened before, and probably won't happen again for a long time.

If everyone moved to windows 10, MS would no longer need to support any older software, it would be a financial boon for them. So it's offered for free to see if that's a possibility.

Windows 10 does have to support older software. If they didn't no one would buy the operating system. In fact, one of the selling points for windows 10 is that it supports almost all of the apps windows 7 does.

Yes Microsoft wants to move everyone to windows 10 but not for the reason you stated and I guess it's something no one will know until they actually tell us. I personally believe they are going to turn it into a service. If you haven't noticed, windows 10 has an end of service date.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle

If microsoft claims windows 10 is going to be the last OS, why is there an end of service date? A wild guess but this could be the date they turn it into a service.

To most people, windows 10 was already free with their computer. The free windows 10 upgrade is really just targeting people who already have a good computer and won't upgrade soon and people who don't upgrade their computers. Your comment is quite shrewd, basically amounting to "Upgrade now at low cost of FREE!! We collect tons of personal data but oh well, whatever. It's unavoidable right?". It's because of this line of thinking that companies like Microsoft is allot to do this. It's because of this line of thinking that companies like google are able to form databases that can combine to find a stunning amount of information about a person or entity. You may not have dirty secrets but every last detail about you is worth something to someone somewhere.

There's a lot of blah, blah on here. What I want to know is, if I preordered the XBox version of this, could I resale it as new and keep the Win 10 version? I've had no problems with games not working on Win 10. My only complaint is that my icons won't stay put where I place them on the Desktop.

Definitely not possible. The windows 10 on xbox one is more to the metal and will only ever work on the xbox. Not to mention, Windows 10 locks to hardware so even if the xbox one was just another computer it would be permanently locked to hardware.

I would think so, since each version is stand alone. However, the Xbox version alone will have a much smaller audience to sell to and without the 10 version accompaniment a smaller one still.

I don't own a Xbox 1, so what would it lock onto, exactly? It sounds like they are separate copies of the game.

Ok so to get the same specs as a crappy console one needs to have a much more powerful pc and dx12 was suppose to be less demanding because games could access hardware directly (like consoles) , but this 16gb for recommended and 4790 and and a gtx 980ti 16gb, I only have a 3770 and a gtx 970 feels like I have a low spec pc, no it's poorly coding that's all

But XBOX runs at a max resolution of 1080p while your PC can run at 4K....

Or higher, and you can increase the as and select shadow detail, clutter, reflection quality, ec.
PC can always look better because it can process more per frame (unless you have a low spec PC).
