Question: PCI-e modes

Hi all. Question concerning pci-e 2.0 x16 lanes and gpu's.

If a mobo has 2 x16 lanes, but one of them runs at smth like x8 mode, does that mean that a GPU placed onto it will be half as fast? (let's say in a situation where you had two cards in x-fire).

No just the lane, which is still plenty fast enough.

really? so modern video cards don't take up all the bandwidth of a pci-e 2.0 slot?

Nope, it won't negatively affect performance.
