Realtek ac'97 audio drive not working, error code 10

AAAAAH! :mad: Untitled 9.jpg I uninstalled the two drivers that you told me to, the ones that were not actually for my computer, and then I tried (reinstalling) sound max from the link you gave me ... but it says there is no driver... I'm confused... aren't I installing the driver?

I'm also not sure if this helps,but I still have the "legacy" audio driver, I'm pretty sure its from my Fruity Loops Studio. would it help for me to uninstall that too?Untitled 10.jpg

Those legacy devices are part of windows. Don't uninstall them. Will get back to you about the rest soon as I can...

p.s. Could you repeat the problem report and dxdiag now that the other two drivers have been removed? I believe that "Multimedia Audio Controller" is your onboard sound card.
Also try the Dell driver again now that the other drivers have been removed.

Oooooooh, that would explain why it says that the sound card is having troubles, becuase it is that "Multimedia Audio Controller" that is showing up and saying it has no drivers installed for it,but I'm not exactly sure how to go about installing it how or where do I install the soundcard?

Now that you've uninstalled those other 2 drivers, try the one on the Dell web site again

/* EDIT */
Also in Device Manager, right click on the Multimedia Controller select Update Driver and allow windows to search the internet.

I'm not sure Dell isn't, in fact, giving the right driver.. but don't know that memory error occured before. Might have been due to something else

It was the sound card itself, it got fried or pooped out on me. I know this because I was trying to restore my older brothers windows XP today, and his hard drive and dome other parts are busted so I took it apart and put his sound card in my pc and now it works :p I didnt even have to download the softwawre, it just came with it... I remember the audio was getting poppy almost like spekers do when they die,but then one day my sound just decided to die and I even tested my speakers and my speakers were fine. thanks for all the advice and time, I actually learned lots :)

How does a sound card die anyways? just over time? too loud of volume? too high of frequency sounds?
