right click hangs!! AAAHHHHHH!!!

if anyone can help it would save my laptops life..
to cut to the chase..
if i right click a file to get the menu, lets say its a batch file, and i want to right click then edit... i get an hourglass and it hangs there, if i move the mouse it eventually times out. if i do alt+enter on the file, it takes awhile but eventually gets there..
any ideas??

This could be caused by spyware, malware or a virus infection. What protection are you using? Try CCleaner and Ad-Aware SE if you don't already have them

I thought that as well. I have ad-aware, bug doctor, no-adware, i tried spybot, they all find a bunch and clean it, but the issue persists.
Virus scan shows clean.

Have you tried a system restore? Your laptop should have a utility for doing this
