Or they can get a 8700k and have even better performance then the 2700x. The reason you use the 1080ti is two fold 1- remove the GPU bottleneck to display CPU performance. 2 - in two gpu generations the 1080ti performance level will be offered in mid range cards and since people upgrade their GPU more often then CPU the test shows a glimpse of future upgraded potential.
