how are they plugged into the wrong port when that's how it's been since I got the computer?

i was referring to your speakers. You see at the back of your PC, you have two sound cards:

->Your onboard (motherboard) audio, which is in the ports bay (under your USB/LAN connections and above your video card - green, blue, pink holes to connect your speakers/microphone etc.). Red coloured circle on the pic.

->Your SoundBlaster Live! card, which you've actually held in your hands, with the ports a serial port, and the colored holes black, green, pink, blue to connect your speakers to etc. Blue coloured circle on the pic.

If you did install your MSI audio drivers correctly, try plugging your speaker cable (highlighted in orange in the pic) to the onboard's green plug, which should give you sound. If you want to use your Soundblaster card (since its better) you'll need to download and install those drivers for that card, like you did for the MSI drivers, then plug your speakers to the green port on it. Each device needs its own driver to be able to utilize it.
