The AI boomerang effect: more data suggests employers are reversing AI layoffs

Duolingo doesn't exist?
Duolingo still exists, but they did not replace employees with AI.
They claimed they did, but even the most gullible probably laughed.

Duolingo lost 75% of its market cap in the last year. And tried to spin the inevitable layoffs following such catastrophe as something positive - becoming AI -first 10x dynamic team blah blah blah .. In fact they lost business and neither needed, nor could afford to pay all their employees. It's a typical company in trouble lying it's not in trouble.

numerous studies posted on this very site have proven that either LLM's have had no effect on productivity and income or have had a negative effect.
The term "numerous studies" is a code phrase that translates to "I'm going to invent a fact to support my opinion."

I do recall one (non peer-reviewed) study by METR that claimed LLMs were making developers less productive, but they quickly retracted it as inaccurate and replaced it with one concluding performance increases:

The methodology is a bit suspect, but the true indicator of the impact AI is having is found is the paper's disclaimer:

"...we have observed a significant increase in developers choosing not to participate in the study because they do not wish to work without AI...."

Surprise, surprise. It turns out you cant fire people because you got shiny new hammers. Turns out you need competent and knowledgeable people to use those hammers to get things done.

If you think AI will die off, then you're just as dumb as those who thought the Internet was a flash in the pan.
The Internet is highly efficient. LLM based AI is just the opposite. The electricity needs are totally stupid. It's living off investor money. There's not a chance of it lasting.

AI appears to be a great way to get rid of deadwood and then hire back goodwood. In this manner fewer lawsuits will be filed

That still means AI isn't working out for them. It's costly to use, if they can't reduce head count or suddenly bring in a ton more revenue that it's been a failure.

People are clueless. I work with a lawfirm, 50% of their work is now done by AI. Same is true for millions of companies. AI slowly does more and more of the work.

Just because you can't afford hardware now, does not change reality. AI is booming and you have seen nothing yet. Mark my words. Lets speak again when Agentic AI is a thing, in a few years. First, companies needs way more computing power and energy, meaning, this bubble won't burst anytime soon. You'll see. Demand is huge, won't vanish overnight.

If you were smart, you invested in AI/Tech years ago. Then hardware would be cheap/free. The ship still has not sailed yet. Booming will happen for years to come. When I see dips, I buy even more. Made millions upon millions in the last 5 years. Pretty much set for life.

Some refuse to think. It seems. Make dime when possible, is my advice.

Imagine dismissing AI year after year, refusing to accept where things are headed while others capitalize and build wealth. Then turning around to complain that hardware is expensive, food is expensive, gas is expensive - when in reality, you simply missed the opportunity to benefit from one of the biggest shifts in recent years. The AI race.

Sooooo stupid and most of these people still think AI is a bubble that will burst "soon" - I can't stop laughing. While making money.

In a few years, there will be two types of people: those who invested in AI and technology, and those who did not. Those who never got on board will struggle to earn enough for even the most basic necessities in life.

Complain, complain, and then complain some more - that’s the future for AI naysayers. Actually, we are already here.

That will make a lot less customers.
Big companies don't care about people with no money.

Selling fewer products with higher margins is better for companies. This is the way things will go. It is in fact already reality.
