The Best Smartphones

Is it possible to buy international version (unlocked bootloader) CDMA compatible smartphones? All I have seen are GSM.

One could argue the curved, edge to edge screen of the Galaxy S8, S8+ and upcoming Note 8 is more fragile than your standard bezel phone but it's only to a small degree. All phones screens that aren't rugged plastic models will crack/break when dropped unprotected from varying heights.

One could... but this article clearly states that the S8 IS more fragile...

Also another important distinction would be that the iPhone is sold more in the US than any other smartphone. In Europe and Asia this is not the case.

Overall sales still favor the iPhone over any single other brand....

Market share total 2016 Samsung 20.8%...Apple 14.5%
Apple overtook Samsung for the last quarter of 2016 ONLY because of the recall but overall...they are not even close to being on top.

You're looking at global market share not USA market share.

In the three months ending January 2017, Android accounted for 56.4% of smartphone sales in the US, down 1.8 percentage points from the period a year earlier. iOS accounted for 42% of smartphone sales, up 2.9 percentage points year-on-year.
iOS devices with their low number of different models do outsell Samsung especially in the $400+ range:

In markets, such as the USA, Apple’s share in the premium segment has reached close to a record 80% in this peak season.”
Here's a chart for that $400+ segment:

Every phone listed here is an oversized phablet.
Most phones with a larger size have better battery life at a minimum, thus they are better.
I decided to go back to the essentials and purchased an iPhone 6S just 6 month ago (didn't like iPhone 7). Now it's just what does the job best for me.
An iPhone 6s is going back to the essentials? Talk about subjective. A Moto G4 play would be closer to getting back to essentials.
So the article's best is very subjective. And giving the best rating to the most fragile phone? - please! How many phones with cracked screens do you see around? I see plenty everywhere. And S8 is here to make it worse.
People see as many or more cracked iPhones around hence the industry built around replacing their screens. Almost all phones are fragile and all the best sellers are near equally so. The best advice is to get a case or insurance.
I traded in the iPhone 6 for a brand new 5se -- great phone for only $199. I use the GoPlan at at&t but got the phone at BestBuy where they took my old 6 for a trade-in. It looks better than the new iPhone thin designs, you can hold the flat sides easier, and the Space Gray one just looks awesome. I improved on the camera, the processor and upped it to 32GB on the storage over my iPhone6, which costs way too much, BTW.

are sure s8+ is as fragile as they say? I owned s8 and drop it few times already, never had a crack on the screen even once, owh I owned alot of galaxy phones(s2,note,s3,note3,note4,s6,and now s8)and doesnt have problem with the 'screen crack issue'(as per now)...but..I saw alot of iphone users have this issue, even the phone drop from table height can cause the screen crack! its lucky if they can issue screen crack warranty claim. if not then few more dollars fly off they pockets.(samsung even give their customer warranty for the screen crack issue-1 time claim for the 1st year).
p/s: why I owned so many galaxies? coz I am some sort of an amateur collector..lol

Hi
as an older android smartphone user (LG G2-LG G4-LG V10-Galaxy s7+) and now an iphone user (6plus 6S plus and 7 plus) and also as a hardware technical pro ,
I have to say there might been huge differences between 1st till 4th iphone generation with android phones but lately differences has became only a few
of course with no doubt iphone has the most secure system but should you be proud of your secure design when you have closed most of communication doors and don't let your users be free to do what ever they "usually"! do as easily as "drag and drop!!"
what I mean its there might be lot of risks for open sorcery system like android , instead of all those free and easily ways of using a smartphone.
There also might be a great huge wall of "ios defense!" in front of most viruses , trojans and ... instead of losing all optional acts and easy ways to convert or move any kind of files to any related apps witch seems to be a kind of dream in iphone and ios systems.!

My final big question is :
Is it really hard and unreachable way for both great companies (apple and Google) to reprogram their operating systems and make life much much easier for people and their users?!
SO;
1- for iphone users like me won't drive me crazy for lots and tons of acts , moving and jumping from one "open in !! " to another "open in !" so finally be able to move a single pdf file to my desired app !!
or not to be limited to just one main computer for all your synchronizations and ..... so in trip or any other place far from your pc , your hands would be tight ?!!
Or what the hell is iTunes good for with all those complex and twisted menus , when it could be much much easier to just connect that damn! mobile to "any" laptop and be able to drag and drop what ever you want where ever you want!! instead of all those back door movements , acrobatic! acts and .... you should make to just be able and Authorized for instance to move a damn single pdf file from iBook app to another similar app!! witch you cant do it without other assistant programs such as iTools with your computer.

Believe me no one deny great and easy work of apps with iphone , it's secure and most of all , the great COMBINATION of hardware and software witch is because of "All in one Company project" witch has made the best performance.
But for god sake , beside many intentional limitations of apple company for reaching more and more money from its users specially users of music , video , and... many other similar apps , honestly couldn't they make the ios "REALLY MORE FRIENDLY USER ??!!
believe me I'm dying! to see next galaxy note "Note 8" and Because of its performance , great look and amazing special features with S pen to perhaps give up iphone 7 plus for that.
Also other new released android high end phones have turned ios users to give up like me and although we might lose some of great things of iphone but believe me nothing could be compared to freedom and the filling makes you believe "YOU ARE THE OWNER NOT THE PHONE!".

Techspot's reviews have been the most comprehensive so you guys should be 1st to test phones reception.
My daily phone has been a Nexus 6p and, though an iPhone-packing friend noticed my old Huawaii didn't have deadspots where his phone did, I gave it no thought. Until I upgraded to a LG V20.
LG makes a great smartphone! Better screen auto-dimming & brightening, better touch screen. Better screen casting. Yet, side-by-side, on the same network, the old Nexus 6p reports 5 db better signal.
So Techspot, I know you can't keep review units for years to compare signal reception side-by-side. But could you designate a place and, in the future, report each phone's self-reported signal strength there?
