Is it possible to buy international version (unlocked bootloader) CDMA compatible smartphones? All I have seen are GSM.

One could argue the curved, edge to edge screen of the Galaxy S8, S8+ and upcoming Note 8 is more fragile than your standard bezel phone but it's only to a small degree. All phones screens that aren't rugged plastic models will crack/break when dropped unprotected from varying heights.
One could... but this article clearly states that the S8 IS more fragile...
Also another important distinction would be that the iPhone is sold more in the US than any other smartphone. In Europe and Asia this is not the case.
Overall sales still favor the iPhone over any single other brand....
You're looking at global market share not USA market share.Market share total 2016 Samsung 20.8%...Apple 14.5%
Apple overtook Samsung for the last quarter of 2016 ONLY because of the recall but overall...they are not even close to being on top.
iOS devices with their low number of different models do outsell Samsung especially in the $400+ range:In the three months ending January 2017, Android accounted for 56.4% of smartphone sales in the US, down 1.8 percentage points from the period a year earlier. iOS accounted for 42% of smartphone sales, up 2.9 percentage points year-on-year.
Here's a chart for that $400+ segment:In markets, such as the USA, Apple’s share in the premium segment has reached close to a record 80% in this peak season.”
I traded in the iPhone 6 for a brand new 5se -- great phone for only $199. I use the GoPlan at at&t but got the phone at BestBuy where they took my old 6 for a trade-in. It looks better than the new iPhone thin designs, you can hold the flat sides easier, and the Space Gray one just looks awesome. I improved on the camera, the processor and upped it to 32GB on the storage over my iPhone6, which costs way too much, BTW.Most phones with a larger size have better battery life at a minimum, thus they are better.Every phone listed here is an oversized phablet.
An iPhone 6s is going back to the essentials? Talk about subjective. A Moto G4 play would be closer to getting back to essentials.I decided to go back to the essentials and purchased an iPhone 6S just 6 month ago (didn't like iPhone 7). Now it's just what does the job best for me.
People see as many or more cracked iPhones around hence the industry built around replacing their screens. Almost all phones are fragile and all the best sellers are near equally so. The best advice is to get a case or insurance. So the article's best is very subjective. And giving the best rating to the most fragile phone? - please! How many phones with cracked screens do you see around? I see plenty everywhere. And S8 is here to make it worse.
