have dell 4500 with windows xp cable internet. when machine is turned on it starts to download spam and will fill ram then locks up unless i pull the plug. have repaired windows, reinstalled windows and set ic access high safty still happens. tryed to reformat hd, get y or n to dismount volumn, nothing happens.

If you've tried to format, then you might as well do it the foolproof (mostly) way.
Download a something like Maxblast. And delete all your partitions, then set them back up again, and format with Maxblast.
That way you can be sure what ever you have is gone. Unless its something uberhardcore it will be gone. Then you can reinstall windows, I'd recommend setting up a firewall before you even try to connect to the net after the Windows installation.
