Upgrade to Intel q9400, crash on Windows start up

Hello,

I have just upgraded from intel e8400 an Intel Q9400 CPU in my ASROCK G31M-S mobo and when I turn on my PC it boots to windows logo and then just freezes. This happens every time.

Could this be a dead cpu or would updating my bios make a difference? Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes the CPU is fully recognised in the BIOS and I have now attempted to reset the CMOS and I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, but still the same result.
