I'd love it if Valve created a Steam OS that had compatability for ALL drivers, and ALL software.
Something that could beat windows for gaming, and offer similar flexibility for productivity etc etc.
Sounds great doesn't it? I hope it comes to stable fruition. But "hope," is the key word. Also I wouldn't expect anything that required minimal tech knowledge (as windows) to be offered for a long time.
If that day ever arrives, and people have been talking about it for ages, then windows would be in trouble.
Pure speculation, but if such a wonderful thing ever happens, I wouldn't expect to see it until late 2028 at the earliest.
Of course if something that required some tech skill to use, such as the best current linux distros, but with no fuss GPU driver integration/update, most people here would be able to use it. That may come late 2027, realistically?
But there is certainly quite a bit of work to be done to reach that stage. Make that a lot of work to be done.
Lets hope it happens.
