I have been here almost two years and have yet to post in this thread.

Here is backround on my clean laptop.

Now my desktop...is a different story.

My Current

Wow, old thread alert. But oh well.

Here is my desktop as of right now. But it changes often. Need to get my objectdock on, and change a couple theme issues, but....

Here it is, scalled down from 1680x1050 widescreen so it would fit in an attachment.

Stunning backround. May I ask where you got it?

EDIT: Just saw your question twite.

It is a combination of

Yahoo Widgets http://widgets.yahoo.com/ (Free)

And object desktop (not free) http://www.stardock.com/products/odnt/

I said my desktop didn't look as good as the other guys desktops.

I don't use any skin, because I don't want to waste my precious RAM :)

Ah, but most skinning doesn't use any resources. It simply changes over some DLLs and graphic files.

Yes my background is cool, it's a picture of the Orion Nebula from the Hubble space telescope. Got it off this page http://nuwen.net/image.html

It was amazing, the original image is 18,000 X 18,000 pixels! He has it sized down to a handful of resolutions including my 1680x1050. Also has some other widescreen and dual monitor resolutions. Very cool.

I'm using WindowBlinds for the theme, no resource usage.

Incidentally, I found the image just by looking in Google images for "1680x1050" and it was on the first page. That's how I often look for backgrounds, just by searching for the resolution.

....Those are some kool backgrounds... too bad System #1 is too slow to display it, and System #2 isn't mine....oh well...

Just an XP theme - I formatted the machine a couple days ago and decided to prepare it since it will become my temporary HTPC as soon as my new TV gets in. My old new TV broke and the replacement I want doesn't get released for 2 weeks or so.

This is my current XP desktop. I'm using a program called Vista Transformation Pack 5.0. It's pretty nice. Uses very little additional resources. Took a few days to figure out what I wanted to keep and what to delete. It does replace some system files and adds a couple startup options I shut down. I uninstalled it to check out how the uninstall works, before I was willing to recommend or bad mouth it. It did uninstall but only partially. I ended up running sfc, and deleting a couple of orphaned items from the registry, but all in all not too bad. There was no data loss or anything like that. I'll post the desktop and links to 2 other shots. I don't want to take up too much room. Final opinion, I think the guy did a pretty nice job.

Control panel and task manager. You can see the Glass2k program uses very little resource.
