Apple iPhone 15 Pro iOS 17.2 Firmware Update

What's New:

The iOS & iPadOS 17.2 SDK provides support to develop apps for iPhone and iPad running iOS & iPadOS 17.2. The SDK comes bundled with Xcode 15.1, available from the Mac App Store. For information on the compatibility requirements for Xcode 15.1, see Xcode 15.1 Release Notes.

AirDrop

• Fixed: Sending an AirDrop or using NameDrop to an 17.0 or 17.1 device might fail sporadically. (117925962)

Apple Music

• Fixed: The Favorite Songs playlist might take a while to appear on some iOS/iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS devices. (117219873)

AVKit

Camera

• Capture spatial video with remarkable depth on iPhone 15 Pro to view in 3D in the Photos app on Apple Vision Pro. Turn on spatial video capture in Settings > Camera > Formats, then capture spatial videos in Video mode in the Camera app. (102470597)
• Added support for depth with select AVCaptureDeviceFormats on AVCaptureDeviceTypeBuiltInTripleCamera. Depth is now available on a wider range of videoZoomFactors on iPhone 15 Pro's AVCaptureDeviceTypeBuiltInTripleCamera and iPhone 15's AVCaptureDeviceTypeBuiltInDualWideCamera with select AVCaptureDeviceFormats. Select AVCaptureDeviceFormats now offer the ability to zoom when depth is enabled without a disruptive reconfiguration. (110654309)

Fitness+

• While streaming a Fitness+ workout via AirPlay, real-time metrics might be missing if the stream was started through the AirPlay button in the top left corner of the video player. (118467046)
• Workaround: Use the AirPlay button located in the bottom right corner of the video player to start the stream.

iMessage Contact Key Verification

• With iMessage Contact Key Verification, users can choose to further verify that they are messaging only with the people they intend. iMessage Contact Key Verification uses Key Transparency to enable automatic verification that the iMessage key distribution service returns device keys that have been logged to a verifiable and auditable map. When a user enables the feature, they will be notified about any validation errors directly in the Messages conversation transcript and Apple ID Settings.
• For even higher security, iMessage Contact Key Verification users can compare a contact verification code in person, on FaceTime, or through another secure call. They can also choose to create or edit a contact and save a public key to turn on iMessage Contact Key Verification with that person.
• All devices signed into your iCloud account must be on the minimum supported version of iOS 17.2 Beta, macOS 14.2 Beta, or watchOS 10.2 Beta. If you wish to keep using other devices on older versions of the OS, you will need to sign out of iMessage on these devices in order to enable contact key verification. (111356044)

Resolved Issues

• Fixed: When verifying another user, Contact Verification Code will not show unless both users are on beta 4 or higher. (114462363)

Journal

• Journal is a new app that helps iPhone users reflect and practice gratitude through journaling. (117631805)
• Fixed: Setting a schedule for notifications will cause Journaling Suggestions notifications to not trigger. However, user will continue to receive Journal App notifications with the set schedule beginning 3 days after onboarding to Journaling Suggestions. (116999378)

Journaling Suggestions API

• Journaling Suggestions provides a visual picker interface for iPhone apps. The picker displays personal Moments that occur in someone's life, such as their workouts and exercise, places they visit, a trip they take, a person they connect with, their photo memory highlights, Photos in their library, a song or podcast they listen to. Only suggestions explicitly added by the user will be shared with an app. If your app donates activities or interactions to SiriKit or CallKit or if someone authorizes your app to save data to HealthKit, some data might show up as part of Journaling Suggestions. • Landscape mode is not supported for Journaling Suggestions API. (117154771)

Messages

• Fixed: Unlocalized string shown for member count in the full screen Map View of Group Messages might appear (e.g. DETAIL_NUMBER_OF_PEOPLE_LABEL). (117287022)

• New pricing properties price, currency, and currencyCode are now available on Transaction. • Improved autocorrect accuracy makes typing even easier by leveraging a powerful transformer-based language model (iPhone 12 and later)
• Easier autocorrect editing temporarily underlines corrected words and lets you revert back to what you originally typed with just a tap
• Enhanced sentence corrections can correct more types of grammatical mistakes when you finish sentences (iPhone 12 and later)
• Inline predictive text shows single and multi-word predictions as you type that can be added by tapping space bar (iPhone 12 and later)

Safari and Passwords

• Profiles keep your browsing separate for topics like work and personal, separating your history, cookies, extensions, Tab Groups, and favorites
• Private Browsing enhancements include locking your private browsing windows when you're not using them, blocking known trackers from loading, and removing identifying tracking from URLs
• Password and passkey sharing lets you create a group of passwords to share with trusted contacts that stays up to date as members of the group make changes
• One-time verification code AutoFill from Mail autofill in Safari so you can log in without leaving the browser

Music

• SharePlay makes it easy for everyone to control and play Apple Music in the car
• Crossfade smoothly transitions between songs by fading out the currently playing song while fading in the next so the music never stops

AirPlay

• Intelligent AirPlay device list makes finding the right AirPlay-compatible TV or speaker even easier by showing your devices in order of relevance, based on your preferences

Visual Look Up

• Expanded domains in Visual Look Up help you discover similar recipes from photos of food, Maps information from photos of storefronts, and the meaning of signs and symbols on things like laundry tags
• Multiple or single subjects can be lifted from the background of photos and videos and placed into apps like Messages
• Visual Look Up in Video helps you learn about objects that appear in paused video frames
• Visual Look Up for subjects in photos enables you to look up information about objects you lift from photos directly from the callout bar

Health

• State of Mind reflection allows you to log your momentary emotion and daily mood, choose what factors are having the biggest impact on you, and describe your feelings
• Interactive charts give you insights into your state of mind, how it has changed over time, and what factors may have influence such as exercise, sleep, and mindful minutes
• Mental health assessments help you understand your current risk for depression and anxiety and if you might benefit from getting support
• Screen Distance leverages the TrueDepth camera that powers Face ID to encourage you to increase the distance you view your device to reduce digital eye strain and can help reduce the risk of myopia in children

Privacy

• Sensitive Content Warnings can be enabled to prevent users from unexpectedly being shown images containing nudity in Messages, AirDrop, Contact Posters in the Phone app, and FaceTime messages
• Expanded Communication Safety protections for children now detect videos containing nudity in addition to photos that children may receive or attempt to send in Messages, AirDrop, Contact Posters in the Phone app, FaceTime messages, and the system Photo picker
• Improved sharing permissions give you even more control over what you share with apps, with an embedded photo picker and an add-only Calendar permission
• Link tracking protection removes extra information from links shared in Messages, Mail, and Safari Private Browsing that some websites use in their URLs to track you across other websites, and links still work as expected

Accessibility

• Assistive Access distills apps and experiences to their essential features in Phone and FaceTime, Messages, Camera, Photos, and Music, including large text, visual alternatives, and focused choices to lighten cognitive load
• Live Speech lets you type what you want to say and have it be spoken out loud in phone calls, FaceTime calls, and for in-person conversations
• Personal Voice enables users who are at risk of losing their voice to privately and securely create a voice that sounds like them on iPhone, and use it with Live Speech in phone and FaceTime calls
• Point and Speak in Magnifier Detection Mode uses iPhone to read text out loud on physical objects with small text labels, such as keypads on doors and buttons on appliances
