A friend with minimal computer knowledge gave me a laptop to see if I could get it to work. When you boot up I can an error that says "stop: c000021a fatal system error The windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down"
At first I tried all startup modes including safe modes, and last known good configuration but the bsod came up everytime. I looked up the error and it says that is a problem with system files. The suggest fix was to do a repair installation. This is where I have problems, everytime I am doing the repair the computer shuts down, but never at the same place in the repair. I thought maybe it was a hardware issue but I can boot and it will sit at the bsod forever without turning off. The only thing he told me was that he thought he had a virus. I don't know about doing a clean install because he said he has a lot of pictures he wants to keep. I also tried two different copies of xp just in case one was bad. Any ideas or suggestions?
