50 Game Benchmark: GeForce RTX 3080 12GB vs. Radeon RX 6900 XT

After 8 years of using Radeon I switched to Geforce a couple of years ago and I havent looked back. The difference is vast and I am quite simply never going Radeon again. Its a dumpster fire. And the difference has only become bigger with RTX. FSR is a laughing stock that hardly anyone uses, DLSS is so much better.

There is a reason Radeons market share is tiny and shrinking. Its a bad product and you shouldnt buy it.

FSR and DLSS aren't comparable at all. FSR is a simple sharpening upscaler. They supposedly still have their proper AI upscaler in the works. Other than DLSS and RT which is still in its infancy they're about the same. I'd go for which ever gives me the best performance for the cost, which in my case was a 3080 for RRP. But I'd have been happy with a 6800XT had I found one for a similar price.

I'm very happy with my 6900xt. Not big fan of nvidia business model, so it's not an issue for me if in some games 3080 is a bit faster, especially the price difference was larger when I got my card.
I'm not sure if card prices will get much better in coming years given Russian *****s and Chinese *****s being a bullies, so I will keep on it for next couple of years I guess.

The 6900xt against the 3080?? Have you lost it? Last week, the 6900xt was completely demolishing the 3090 in time strike benchmarks, and a few others as well. It wasn't even close, but a one side beat down. There is no single geforce card is the top 30. They had a 4x sli titan setup but even that got demolishes by the 6900xt. The only 3090 model was at 31st place I believe. Ray tracing is nice, but not make or break.

The 6900xt is such a beast that nvidia is desperate to release the 3090ti. But that no longer makes sense for them, since the next round of cards are about to launch

Well for those who want to buy a GPU now, hold on your gun till the end of this year for the 4000 series and make your amor heavier. If you can pay 1600usd/euros now, that money will bring you much better value with the 4000 series.
Except of course supply will be constrained so prices will be way up, and even if not so constrained scalpers will do their best to inflate the msrp.

Well if it demolished the 3090 in timespy then who cares about the 3% edge on actual games, and massive lead in raytraced games with dlss.

Why are the Chinese being bullies? Why don't you at least wait for them to justify that name rather than giving it to them preemptively. If you want to see evidence of demonstrable bullying look to Israel with the Palestinians, the US with Iraq, Germany with Greece and Russia with Ukraine.

I'd say China in Tienanmen Square, China in Tibet, China in CHINA.... there's plenty of evidence of them being bullies :)

Interesting that your first example is Israel... I'd rather say the Arab world bullies Israel far more than Israel bullies anyone...

People don't buy cards to use in benchmark software, they buy them to actually use them. The benchmark results favouring the 6900XT are useless to all the people buying the cards to game. Tests like this article are what's useful.

I may sound harsh, but all these benchmarks are useless until a common layman can purchase these cards at the MSRP.

Anyway, a few FPS lead does not mean you should purchase the card occupying the top of the benchmark at bloated prices even at MSRP.

Sorry, Steve Walton. This is not a post to demean your huge tiresome efforts , but you're just doing your job. This is more to the current state of deplorable state of hardware costs due to scalpers and miners phenomenon.

For me, any card that can maintain a minimum of 60fps 1% min framerate across 1080p or 1440p is enough. As of now, even the 3090 can't breach the 60fps at 4K from start to finish in MS FS @ minimum 1% benchmarks. If you are paying obscene amount of money for a graphics card, you better make sure it can at least maintain 60FPS @ 4K minimum. Constant. Else, you are just wasting money by boasting to buy it. But hey, it's your money.

Anyway, we don't have any proof you boasters actually bought these wasteful 3090s.

People buying the cards on ebay and the like for the massive price hikes are keeping the scalpers in business too. I managed to get a card at RRP from following Part Alert on discord.

I'd just feel an ***** paying double MSRP for anything. I'm quite happy waiting till sanity returns and NVidia, AMD or Intel produce a reasonable card that's available for a decent price. That also means I won't be upgrading anything else on my aging system until that point as there's no point upgrading to one of the current processors if my GPU can't keep up.

Made an account just to comment this. Every source and youtube video I checked has the rx 6900xt outperforming the rtx 3080 and yet you have it the opposite. How and why?

Did you look at the 1080p and 1440p averages towards the end of the article? Note how the RTX 3080 is slower, on average, than the RX 6900 XT - with and without the outlier result. Only at 4K is the 3080 faster, by a small amount, where global memory bandwidth and FP32 throughput become important; given that the RTX is slightly better in those aspects than the RX, the result isn’t that much of a mystery. Besides, the overall differences between are small enough to say that, across all that testing, the cards are roughly the same, on balance.

However, notice how some games strongly favor the RTX and others favor the RX? Well, if other reviews have used games that are mostly from those selections, then one card will always stand out a lot more. Benchmarking 50 games, multiple times, is an immensely time consuming job but it makes the results, and subsequent analysis, carry far more weight than something based on, say, 8 or 10 games.
