Im trying to run quad monitors, and i need 4 dvi ports. I figured if i am going to spend the money to buy a new vid card, i should just upgrade my old card.

I Thinking about buying 2 8600 gts..and running them in sli, but i just want to make sure if i am spending the money, that it will at least be an upgrade. Anyone know of any reviews with a comparision between the two?

for 4 monitors 2 8600 would work but 2 8800GTS would be better if I were u I go with the 640MB models.

But i don't want to spend over $100 to do it. Once i recieve the new card, i am going to sell the x1900 on ebay..and hopefully get $200 back.

If i had the money i would buy 2 8800 gtx..but i dont...so im looking for a cheap upgrade.

I don't think you'll get $200 for that.

And still beyond the point..i can bend 50 or so dollars either way.

Not going to kill me.

A single 8800 is cheaper than the 2 8600s and a better upgrade option in the future. If you get the 8600s you'll have to ditch 2 cards when you upgrade.

You should read the whole post.

I'd say its a pretty tough call about how the 2 8600's will perform compared to the single X1950XT.

Checking the charts available at www.tomshardwareguide.com, the 8600gts seems to beat a single X1900Xt.

Seems like it.

Its right up there with the 1950..so i don't see why 2 in sli wouldn't smoke the 1900.

Thats probably what i am going to end up doing.
