Boot Problems

This is a new computer that I just put together. I turn it on, it detects everything fine. Then when I try to boot anything(such as, XP installation, or any boot disk) the screen turns black and there is a blinking dash in the top left hand part of the screen. Any ideas?

Hmm, my crystal ball says you have a mainboard, CPU & some ram somewhere in there too. Sorry, I can't make out much more then that.

MSI k7n2 is the motherboard, AMD 2700+, and 512 pc 2700

Did you set the BIOS to start from CD?
