Brother printers are quietly sabotaging third-party toner with firmware updates

Is this just for Brother color lasers or also monochrome. The article only mentions that it degrades "color".

This is not unexpected to be honest. If the business revolves mostly around making money from ink cartridges / toners, it is not a matter of whether they will start gimping third party ink, but a matter of when. You can tell from the fact that first party ink/ toner tends to have lower print counts as compared to 3rd party ones which makes one go back to buy more at a faster rate.

And this is why I have been using tank inkjet printers for more than a decade. this may be new in the US but it's been available for many years in the developing region.

basically you just pour the ink as you need. it doesn't care what type of ink you're pouring. the only downside is that since it's inkjet, the printing speed highly depends on what type of piezo the head is using. also it's prone to streaking if you always used the fast speed option, so you gotta use the best option so it uses more ink but the head doesn't get clogged, and the roller doesn't get worn off fast.

12 years ago I paid $150 for one brother inkjet printer with a set of ink bottles. and now 9000 pages later I still think it's the best hardware investment I've ever made. a brand new equivalent printer from brother today would cost me $350 and that's a no from me.

Switched to Epson Ecotank some 10 years ago, my Samsung color laser printer is now more or less a huge expensive paper press in my office...

It sure would be nice to see the government put a stop to many of these companies shady shady business practices, and the way they program their printers. Printers stop working when toner counter reaches a certain number of printed pages, along with other parts. No cartidge error(s) installed when using some aftermarket cartridge's. If the Chinese aftermarket teaches on one thing, it's that OEM's are charging astronomically inflated prices on their cartridge's, even if there is some magical juice in OEM's. While I've seen many aftermarket carts leak toner, OEM's aren't immune either. It's hard to justify buying OEM, when you can purchase 4-8 OE cartridge's for the price of 1 OEM.

Well see that's my point you pay $77 for rank The last one I bought it's a cannon printer I bought it at Walmart it's inkjet came with ink both color black and white and I paid $38 for it
Well mine is a little fancier than that one! 😁 It is a TR8520, has scanner auto feed tray, wireless, Ethernet and prints high quality photos!😁😁 The next one I want it to print on printable DVD and Blu-rays!😍
