Can you manually configure RAID Auto/AHCI to RAID Auto/ATA in Windows?

Hey guys,

I need to reformat my partners laptop but I'm coming across some annoying obstacles!

She currently has Windows Vista and i'm wanting to format to Windows XP.
I was unable to format using boot disk as i got this error: ***STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000). Figured out i needed to change RAID Auto/AHCI to RAID Auto/ATA through my bios settings. Only issue with that is my bios doesn't have the option to do so. According to other forums these settings are purposely locked by the manufacture to protect the computer. I've searched for mods and updates to unlock these settings and i've asked on other forums to see if anyone knew how to unlock them to no avail.

Details:
Sony Vaio VGN-CS23G
Bios - InsydeH20 Rev. 3.5 Ver.R1080Q2

So my question is, Can I manually configure RAID Auto/AHCI to RAID Auto/ATA in windows or anywhere else except bios?

Any help with this would be very much appreciated!

Regards.
