Dell BIOS Password Removal

Ahhh sucess at last. I finally got the paperclip to reset my Dell D600 laptop. I changed the time and date in setup and when i rebooted it said the HDD was password protected. It gave me 3 tries to guess then went to a black screen that said

Primary hard disk drive 0 not found
No bootable devices--strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility

Now i have these 2 Dell CD's, one is drivers and utilites and drivers, and the other is operating system. I was wondering if i should put either one of these into the CD port and run them, but i wanted to ask here 1st. I know my knowlege is low and this may be an easy ?, but thanks for the help.

You have as much chance of getting access to that disk as there is of meeting Elvis,

Forget it , its locked and there is nothing anyone can do (well there is an online service but its pricey)

Glad to see you solved the Passwrod problem though, i'm so glad we can help.

I don`t know about royalty lol.

To be honest, I can`t remember if I`ve posted in this thread before or not.

The reason for my post was because I had directed bluecat1 to this thread in the hope that it would solve his problem, which it did.

I then thought it`d be nice to follow up on his post and thank him for letting us know, his problem was solved.

Regards Howard :)

try using cmospwd. you put it on a bootable floppy swuch as a win98 disk, which you can get from bootdisk.com, and when you activate the program, then you kill the bios. this will erase the password. It may however also flash the bios at the same time, but i think you can go around that little feature.

Oh PLEASE , dont you think that if it was that easy then we wouldnt bother running this thread.

The password is not located in the BIOS chip but on an EEPROM chip totally seperate from the BIOS.

Posting statements like this just causes confusion in the long run and I would really appreciate it if you would consider editing the post to avoid confusion.

If you dont believe me just read back through the thread (all 37 pages of it) and you will see what I mean.

I don' appreciate the rude tone from you there ididmyc600. all i am doing is trying to help. Ididmyc600 and skarmory2002. Please keep it civil guys.

This is one hell of a good thread. It`d be a shame to spoil it.

Thanks.

595b password removal pack

Hi I just found a random wee software pack from a link on this site and I used it to remove my service tag number and re install the same number and in doing so erase the admin and config passwords that someone else enterd before I brought my laptop (dell latitude c610) from its NVROM chippy thingie. The filename for this amasing wee pack is svctag.exe and apparently it works on all dell portable systems. It runs under a win98 dos boot disk I just extracted the files to my USB memory disk, as it tells you to do then copied them onto my floppy disk and booted off the floppy disk then ran the program. When it asked if i wanted to remove my service tag i said yes and then when it said what service tag would you like to enter i re-enterd the origional tag number and it worked. re booted the laptop and the passwords were reset. No dicking round shorting the NVROM pins and rebooting for me. Well pleased. email removed if you want the file if you cant find it with google or somthing put dell in the subject line.

dell latitude D600 labtop

Hello community i have a dell latitude D6oo labtop with a password bios can anyone help me to clear it,once you open the labtop it goes striaght to the password.

A big thanks to IdidmyC600 and Paragon33

As the title says, this is a message of thanks to IdidmyC600 and Paragon33 who between them in this forum (plus Idid's site) have created the largest knowledge base of Dell password removal I've found to date on the 'net. :unch:

Whilst I've not had anywhere near as many machines go through my hands, the 27 or so that I've had an opportunity to have a go at have largely been done as a result of the information posted.

So folks, all the information you'll ever need is either here, on IdidmyC600's site, or (in the case of service manuals etc) available with a little searching for free elsewhere. 38 pages (at the time of writing) may be a lot of reading, particularly for those where English is not your first language, or thinking is not your favourite hobby, but it is ALL HERE!

Just thought a little gratitude wouldn't go amiss!

Its nice to hear that this file will work for C610 in your case. But a lot of Dell notebooks did not come with floppy drive and even come with a floppy drive, the only bootable device is set to HDD with the password enabled in the EEPROM that render this file useless.

I had used Paragon's method to unlock the password and I did not have the chance to proof that this file will work as well. I downloaded this Dell file from Dell website for future reference.

For other future newcomers with Dell password problem, there is no harm to try this Dell file before opening up the laptop for paperclipping.

Sticking it to dell

Ok I decided that i'm going to make it my mission to stick it to Dell whenever possible over their apparent lack of help for people who own second hand Lappy's (like you guys) so I decided to join their forum (some of you here have seen my posts and came here) and post a message which is contained below.

Resetting BIOS Passwords

There are 2 instances of this

You get a grey screen with "this system is locked and can only be unlocked by entering....."

The BIOS is accessible but you dont know the Master Password to change the boot order

Well despite what Dell might tell you there are utilities and fact files out on the net that will allow you to reset the password using 2 methods

1 is the paper clip method, Dell would go mad to know that there is a simple way to reset the BIOS Password using a bit of metal, but it does work.

Second is the software method where you can get access to the BIOS

in the first instance you can download a password generator that will give you the master password BUT ONLY FOR CERTAIN TYPES OF SERVICE TAG

in the second instance their is software that will clear the eeprom that contains the service tag and you just boot from a floppy and run it.

Job done.

So when people ask how to do it tell them, Google on laptop password reset to find the answer and search ebay for items on this topic
This may be my last post and I may well be kicked out of here and this post edited but I just did it to stick it to Dell as I hate their approach to second hand users of Dell Laptops Spread the word.................

Now read the next post

Straight to the point and from that as I have said already I have had many emails from people asking for help.

SO it seems that the problem is wide spread enough that Dell should start making some kind of compromise and dealing with the problem.

But they don't, because their is always the possibility that the Lappy is stolen, and they dont want to be known as a company that helps thieves.

Which leaves you and I up sh*t creak with out the paddle, until that was the files and knowledge became available to reset the service tag and paperclip the EEPROM.

And this is what they sent me via email

Sam's problem was one of a locked BIOS password not a Locked Laptop, and yes the file from Dell will work OK but is an older version and does not work with some of the newer BIOS's, the files on my site are created by Paragon and are tested on the latest BIOS versions.

If you face the problem of having a laptop that is locked with a grey screen then you have absolutley no choice but to paperclip the machine as there is no way to run any software on a locked laptop.

You are right, this thread is somewhat blown up. 37 pages are too much just to find out the few ways of clearing the PWs.

Some posts are just personal messages from Paragon and Jud with few concern to this thread.

And now to your proposal: Most systems don't even boot, just with that grey pre-boot screen of entering the PW.

Sincerely

Klaus
