Dell inspiron no boot sector

Just bought a Dell inspiring from some guy worked great till I closed the screen down too hard and now its saying no boot sector press f1 to retry f2 for diagnostics....diagnostics run but end up up not being able to boot up...can I just take the hard disk out and see if I just accidently unplugged it???

You are likely going to have your best luck reformatting the hard drive, unless you have the software to boot up and run a repair install. The Dell Windows disks are not good at running the repair option, but a borrowed Windows OEM disk of the same Windows version will do it, and use the Dell Sticker product ID.
A more experienced technician can usually fix the problem for you in an hour or less.
