Garbled music often when playing off my Toshiba laptop

Toshiba lap top satellite M115-S3144
Windows XP Media Center Edition
Intel Centrino 5500
2 GB of Ram

Periodically playing music is skipping, crackles, garbled, etc. After "out of box" restore will work OK for awhile.....then starts garbling up again.............

Any thoughts?

Follow these four steps:

Do a clean boot. Clear temp and prefetch.
Create a restore point and then update the sound card drivers.
Also try to install KLite codecs from filehippo.com
Do Windows Updates.
