HP / Dell / etc. Laptop password help (April - July 2008)

You have me confused with another. I am not one who has ever reported repairing an HP password problem, except by involving HP.

Just out of curiosity, what is the designation (mark) on the board, next to the eeprom? Similar to how a resistor is marked Rxxx, capacitor =Cxxx, etc. Some of those chips on my HP board are marked POxxx, but others have different marks.

i found this if that can help:)
In order to turn the laptop on while jumping the chip with a paper clip; the hdd, the power circuit board
must be replaced, and the cover as well. Use a as power adaptor If red don´t work, try purple pins.

Im not getting this? My english is maybe bad, but you are saying that i have to replace the cover?

Also tried the purple.. didnt work.

I did a lot of searching!

More info:

Try to short the marked pins, red, yellow or purple directly after you pushed the power button.
Try to short the marked pins, red, yellow or purple and push the power button.
Try to short the marked pins and push the power button, when cursor flashes release.
Try to short to different times of booting and release to different times.

The cheapest address is here
Thanks Obi you are right. Dell is the cheapest

Under warranty should be free
Outside warranty, it is $39 (Note: "Outside Warranty" also means it does not need to be registered to you innitially)

@ihateDL,

Well I like Dell actually, and so do the users here trying to get their Dell back to normal again.

The cost of your service is quoted $75 :haha: Make it $40 and then everyone's happy

all you need is the dst cd. boot up your d830 with it and change or remove the service tag. this will clear out the config password inside the bios so that you can do changes. dont forget to set the service tag back to its original value. otherwise you might lose the warranty for it.

I already know what you're going to say
But put it this way, I have 5000 posts, and NOT one has been asked to pay me a cent.
I give my service freely
How about you?

Thanx for the info. I will give it a try today. Where to download the dst cd???

one cent per post with 5000 posts would be one password off ebay :)
well, keep it this way! it is my way as well

Hmm if he wanted to say his service was $40 (off the forum) then I'd talk
Note: I am not by any means condoning this behaviour, just compromising a little

Im not getting it Tried it but its not working.

I made a picture and now i wanna know if im not shorting the wrong eeprom.

Found more info
For bios lock the service tag will be XXXXXXX-XXXX
For hard drive lock the service tag will be XXXXXXXXXXX-XXXX

so mine is definitly bios locked.

Finally did it !!!!!! With this tip!

http://www.download.centre4service.com/paragontips.html

The second option is to use the Mod shorter, put the pin point in between pins 5 and 6, turn on the board and then move the point back and forth between the pins with 1-2 second pauses between moves. I have used this 4 times, on a Latitude D600, an Inspiron 2200, an Inspiron 8200 and a C810, so it was no fluke.

Well done

I've copied down your found information. So now it's not this pin and that pin, it's:
Short pins 5 & 6
Turn on
Short pins 1 & 2
Then short pins 5 & 6 (again)
Then short pins 1 & 2 (again)
Then do those last two steps over again (not sure howmany times)
Then presto!

@ihateDL
I'll just wait for the PM (the truth is I don't want to email, unless I set up a generic one)
Sorry for the assumption

Well, good news, and bad news.
I obtained the bios password today with a simple phone call. Upon looking thru the bios, I discovered the boot order, or devices, were not locked out.
I plugged a usb device into the slot, and it gave me the option to boot from it. All this time, I have been trying to figure out how to reload the O/S. DOH! I could have just plugged in my usb cd/dvd player.
