Thanks for the information kimsland.
So it seems the laptop I have just bought secondhand is not able to be shorted and what I thought was an eeprom may well not be as I can not find information on Atmel's site about it (AT45BCM021B). I am off on holiday in two days and was hoping to take the machine with me, yet now it seems like this is not possible.
Thanks for the information, service and everyone's free time.

If it's registered to you, it'll take around 24hrs (at most) and usually 3hrs (normally) via Dell (or other) manufacture support

If it's not registered to you, you can inform Dell to get it registered to you, this takes exactly 30 days (just that normal legal wait part)

If you want to do it yourself, I posted a step by step guide just above, or you can wait for other replies on what to do.

Yes you can pay for an immediate service, they're all over the place (ie ebay, you name it) but this is usually costly (ie way higher than Dell $39)

Actually Obi posted a link for a $10 service, but I think this is already just a free pdf already posted (not sure, as I haven't bought it, maybe he could explain what it is)

Your best option is to get it registered to you, just in case it happens again (which will be instant fix, ie registered)

No it is not registered to me so I would have to transfer ownership and then wait, which does not really help me at this point but maybe is what I will have to do when I get back. As for the step by step guide are you referring to the paper clip shorting method? as the laptop (in my first post Dell Latitude D430) is not listed and I am not able to find a 24C02 eeprom chip, is the chip I thought was the eeprom correct?
Thanks again.

It is never about how they look. It is always about how they are programmmed, and that is usually by a very good eeprom programmer... sometimes too good, as for example the D620.

BIOS Password Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop

Does anyone know how to get around/reset the BIOS password on a Dell Inspiron 1000 Laptop. I've been browsing around the internet, have read many help sites and gone through many forum posts but have yet to find specific solutions to the Inspiron 1000; there have been a few people seeking solutions but no one was able to provide them for this specific model. I've tried the program posted in this forum (download.centre4service.com, tried locating the eeprom chip on the mobo, and attempted shorting two chips (including one labled 93LC46 [see the 3rd to last post here: techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-18780-p-14.html]) that look similar but do not sport the '24c' marking. I just tried calling Dell, dropped $40 on an out of warantee tech call that provided me with two generated passwords that neither work. The bios simply reads: Enter Password [ ]. after booting past the Dell screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

is it the screen showing

you cannot use this laptop without entering the administrator password and after 3 tries the laptop shuts down.

Or is just the BIOS cannot be changed.

If its the above then the site you listed above has a contact link on it use it and explain your problem clearly to the webmaster help will come.

Regards

Hi,

I'm new here. After reading some threads and links on this forum, I noticed that you could not use the paper-clip method to pass-by DST,
So I turn to you and ask if you can get me the password for my Dell Latitude D620

Laptop: Dell Latitude D620
ST: 8L0813J-595B

Thanks in advance

Read through all the 800+ posts. There are a couple of fixes, but in general, the D620 is the most difficult of all the Dells to patch of fix the password problem.
I have never been able to affirm a case where anybody, even Rustam, as been able to do it.
Register the laptop in your name then pay Dell the $40 to fix it.

searchin for eeprom

I didmyc600:
it comes up with "Enter password" right after the Dell screen. I passworded the BIOS when I was traveling, and now have forgotten it.

I just got around to the back side of the mobo (I didnt realize laptop mobos are full of stuff on the back) and now am trying to hunt down the eeprom chip...haven't found it yet though, at least nothing with a '24c' on it...

If registered to you, it is easy. If not, re-register to your name and address, then Dell takes 21 working days to check out the validity of your address and your contact info. When you check back with the Service tag after 21 working days, it is yours.
Then you pay a small fee of less than $40 with shipping in most cases, It takes them less than a minute to clear the password with their install, then it is back in the box to you in hours.
In some locales and situations, they send a tech to your home to clear the password there... but that one is a big long in the tooth, and a problem removal.

Be sure to talk to them by phone AFTER you do the re-registration online. It is easy, simple, straight forward.

Yet another Dell password

Hi guys hope this is in the right section : )

I have a Dell D620 Laptop that my friend managed to lock the BIOS. I have searched and searched but no luck yet on how to unlock it. After disassembling the entire laptop in eager to find the EEPROM chip, I found out that this model doesn't support the shorting method.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me restore this computer. The hard drive is all good as I have backed it up, so my friend is not worried about having to reformat it if in case.

The service tag is: #CQTFY91-595B

It's registered under me (or my father technically) and I'm the first and only owner. The problem was both the passwords Dell generated for me based on the service tag, didn't work. thanks tho =/

I have a Dell latitude D820

I have a dell D820,
laptop locked admin password in the white gray screen..
The service tag is: #2JMD6C1-595B
By i'm from uzbekistan...
Please help...

Then I doubt any other fix will work either. Send it to an authorized Dell technician. A disc will be sent from Round Rock to rewrite the password eeprom. They will not send that to you.

of course, dell can't help you as inspiron 1000 dont use service tag and any ending like 595B.

So my questions:
After 3 unsuccessful tries is any ID appeared on the screen?
If not, during POST press ESC and immediately Fn+F11, Notebook ID should be appeared. Post it here and I can investigate it further.

hpgl:
thanks a lot...i believe after 3 unsucessful attempts i says something like:
00000
System Locked

I'll have to piece it back a little bit in order to check that or the other method as I completely tore it apart to get to the underside of the mobo (yes every screw including the 2 female ones on the vga port are required to get underneath the mobo).

I have some fairly hq photos of the front and back of the mobo with all the 8-legged chips outlined with their labels written if those are of any interest (in terms for the eeprom-shorting paperclip method).

Once I get it back together tomorrow I'll write back. thanks again

BTW the service tag is 75K2251...it produced 2 faulty backdoor passwords for Dell

Dell keeps records on all sales... service tag or not... If you can provide enough information for the look-up, such as deliver address, month, configuration... and there is identification on the Inspiron 1000 as well, even if it is not a service tag... The inspiron 1000 series we see in our shop have Identification... service tag if bought from Dell, but not if used or from a store that provides its own warranty.

strange code: 00000
did you try to enter into BIOS Setup with 3 tries to get another code?
btw try this password:1114463
Also during post no any 8-digit notebook ID?
