I called Dell and paid for the "supposely master password" that one does not work.
Geez some of these wordings are getting more stupider by the moment :D
For anyone who wants to know, if you pay Dell for the password (the cheapest method I might add) and it doesn't work, um.. just call them back, they'll just give the single one that does work.

For anyone who has just come here hoping for help, do this only :)

Check the above links, then leave
Do not purchase a Dell password through any link (other than Dell) that may be provided here. The ones here trying to sell passwords are the highest priced in the known universe. They are just trying to sucker the gullible in

Good luck to the ones that are authentic here, being not many ;)

Excuse my apparent ignorance.

Excuse me for requesting help!

I have to apologize for my lack of detail knowledge concerning the 1720 Inspiron. It did not seem readily apparent from the other links that most of those method would apply to the Inpiron 1720.

Why would I assume that Dell would not provide the correct master password upon
my initial "paid request," How would I know that there is a single master password?

Yes, I'm grasping at wisps of smoke! That's why I came here. You folks seemed to be the most knowledgeable and most willing to share or help! I came here first, read all the treads related to my problem, tried several things that did not work. Then tried Dell! Now I'm back, looking additional help.

D830

hello all. As with most, I was directed to this forum to get help on password locked Dells.

as the 'computer guy' friend, I have a D830 that was dropped off to me.

service tag: FFGCCF1 (#FFGCCF1-595B) on the error message
express service code: 33586177501

can't get to BIOS due to the 'password authentication system'

looked up a few resources and found that there is no chip to short on these units...
any help?
TIA

I have the same problem like grc1 had. Tried everything on my Latitude x200. Didn't find the eeprom to reset the BIOS password. (I think pw stored in cmos) Removing cmos batt was not helping. Tried DSTCD.iso. It wiped out every tag but was not successful setting the new because of bios pw set. Without service tag set i cannot use any pw generator. My BIOS says after 3 trials 10824. Can somebody (hpgl?) help me out?

(The x200 was my work laptop in office as I worked in Germany. I bought it from the company and living in Hungary now. It is not easy to transfer ownership on Dell pages if you are living in an EMEA indirect country.)

If DELL provide you master password, post it here and I will check if it correct.
I'm hoping someone can help. I own a dell inspiron 1720, service tag H6X8DF1 express service tag 37423914733. When I recieved this laptop I put a password on the harddrive. For some stupid reason this weekend I decided to remove the password. Needless to say, now my harddrive still asks for a password, but no password will work. I called Dell and paid for the "supposely master password" that one does not work. When the hard disk number is
#***5MA8JHYF-595B. Hoping someone might have possibly another password. The Dell Tech did not know anything about the a95 bug. I've read about here. my Firmware is A06.
In desparate need of help -- all my college class work is contained on this harddrive.

Probelm solved, pass found :chef: No help needed.

Can someone help me? I am in need of a password to unlock the Phoenix BIOS of an HP Omnibook 6100 with a hash code of 03318.

And i have a question. With the help of hash code you get the master password for the bios, right? And what about the hdd pass?

P.S.
For all who are in need of a BIOS password for a HP notebook, to get the right hash code, when the notebook boots, press F2, like you normaly wan't to enter the bios, and if it asks for pass press F12 and you'll get the hash code. Don't make the mistake like me, as i tought that the service ID is the hash code.
Hope i helped you out there.

@kimsland
u could put the few lines i wrote in my above post for HP hash code retrival in a somekind of a "tutorial" like the one on page techspot.com/vb/post610782-4.html , as i see, lot of people are not posting the wrong hash code (as i once).
Just a tought...

Do not use any pay for service links ever provided on this forum, as they are the most expensive of them all.

Yes hpgl is great at providing these only free passwords for HP only

Wow I would suggest that no one ever needs to pay HP, as hpgl always does it free (for selected users it seems ;))

That's fantastic that it's free free free, Oh  no ones been approached to pay I hope :( Now that would be bad

So you had 1 HP and 2 Dells and you also decided to edit out one of your posts
And you are in some business selling gaming stuff or something?
Am I right so far?

Really as stated above (and below now ;)) try Dell support as first option

actually I am an electronics broker and i have about 200 hp's with the same hash. I also have a customer who had 2 dells that I sold him that I didn't realize that they were bios locked. So to answer your question no I'm not selling gaming equipment. But I don't like going through dell or hp because they charge for the service and i rarely get an agent that can speak good english. So I am requesting the help of HPGL since he helped me with the last request. And as far as the edit on my last post, i accidentally changed it, thinking i was making a new post, and since i didn't remember what i wrote i tried to just delete and make a new one but it said i had to have a minimum number of characters, so i just put in a bunch of #'s. Does that answer all of your questions. And i still need assistance on those 2 dells if anyone can help me, and when i mean help I don't mean responding with a link to dell. I know how to contact dell, if they provided me with an answer I wouldn't be on this forum. Thanks!

Oh I wasn't sure what phoenix was about
But don't worry because I'm very smart, and thorough ;)
I'll keep checking the thread for spammers, but I laugh when they reply to themselves :D

Oh and in case I forgot to post this: (which I do on every post in slightly different format ;)

... I also have a customer who had 2 dells that I sold him that I didn't realize that they were bios locked...

how do you mean "bios locked"? if it was just being unable to change settings inside the bios you can remove the password yourself by changing/removing the service tag.
if it is the grey screen... you guess you already read what that means and its your choice to wait for ever or to pay for it - no matter if it is dell or any other guy with the keygen.

is the D830 pretty much a lost cause people?

and I realized the blinking caps key issue was due to an improperly seated ram module.

hi

I have taken the advice here and used the change of ownership form, it let me submit it with an unknown previous owner but i am curious as to how long it normally takes to transfer, and do you get written/email/telephone confirmation of the transfer?

I have my nice shiney D430 paperweight and dont want to ring dell and look stupid if the transfer will take a week or something!!

thanks
Pete

Dell Master Password help, AGAIN

I am new to this forum and I am told you would be the one I need to post to. I am no good at beging an I really need to now. So I will give it my best. I purchased a Laptop off the net and was told after it was sent to me ( no refunds ) that the password was lost. I tried to contact Dell but was told that I needed the previous owners info. I contacted the company and was told that since it was a trade in they are not able to find owner info ( to many customer ). I would like to know what I could do to request your help.

The Tag
9PW8ZG1- 595B
Express Code
21156862321

So I'm curious, since changing the service tag works for reseting the eeprom where the bios setup password is, as far as Dells go, is there a way to do the same thing with an hp. Like a DSTCD for hp's?

My reply does not offer you password help, but you might want to consider it anyway.
Note... I am not a lawyer and my comments should not be taken as legal advice.
I am only outlining a strategy I might try to follow if I were in your shoes.

1. Under the circumstances, I would suggest you file a complaint with the venue where you purchased the laptop (Ebay?). I f I understand you , it sounds like it was NOT sold by its original owner, and the person who sold it to you did so deceptively (at several levels). This is fraud, and can be prosecuted.

2. If you think this may be a stolen laptop, you may want to contact the police department of the city where the seller lives... The laptop serial # may be reported and listed as stolen...

3. Upon re-reading your note, it appears that you may have bought it from a business... If I were you, I would recontact them and let them know that you are ready to take legal action, for fraud, and that you intend to contact the Better Business Bureau and Police Departments of their community. Receipt of stolen property (what the "store" may have done) is one crime. Fraudulent sales are another. They will not want to deal with these kinds of charges.

4. If you have an attorney friend, ask them to send a letter on your behalf. I bet you will get your money back in short order. If you do not have an attorney friend, you may want to employ one, especially if your purchase $ was greater than three or four hundred dollars. Spending $100 bucks +/- to recover your money, might be a good investment. Some attorneys will give a little free time to evaluate your case... and perhaps then only charge for the letter. Your mileage may vary.

Good luck.
