HP G71 power problems

My hp G71 laptop won't turn on, but I can feel the electricity on the metal parts when it's plugged in. When I moved from the US to Ireland I lost my charger, so I bought one over here for my laptop. I think I might've overpowered my laptop and fried it ,but I'm not totally sure. If this is what I've done, what can I do to fix it? Would I be better off getting a new laptop all together? If you can't tell, I'm not brilliant with computers.

US charger 120 volts, Ireland 230 volts. The US AC adapter won't work in Ireland unless you purchased a converter. It is very possible that you fried the motherboard if you supplied 230 volts to a 120 volt laptop
