Microsoft plans to remove Paint from Windows, but will still live at the Store

Everyone's upset about Paint being removed (including me). Yet, no one's mentioned that System Image Backup is on the chopping block, which I also think is useful to easily help friends maintain backups. May not be the best app for that, but now what?

Bummer on paint being removed but I have moved to GIMP 3 years ago and haven't used it much since then. The image backup is another hard loss, I still use that on my windows 7 desktop once a month, I have been using Todo backup on my laptop with win 10 and I am gonna move my desktop to is as well, I find it better than the backup/imaging software window's has released with the OS's.

I haven't used Paint in ages, since I discovered GIMP and Inkscape (a vector-based free graphics program).

As others have said, I'm sure they're making way to push Paint 3D as the default instead, trying to update their look and finally kill some seriously old legacy software.

While the alternatives mentioned may be better, many have mentioned that on locked down corporate systems users may not be allowed to install programs from external sources.

All you need to do is copy the files back. You can even run older versions on Windows 10 if you want, like the XP version of paint.

Well heck, what am I going to use now? :(

Well the article says:

"Furthermore, the newer Paint 3D will continue to be bundled and actively updated".

It doesn't clarify if this is available only in the Creators Update or on all Windows installs. ;)

Snipping Tool or Paint 3D

...both can literally do that.

yea yea yea... you didnt catch the "lol" at the end of my message I guess

(my joke is that it's all paint ever gets used for anyway, still kind of joking. Not true, obviously.)

EXACTLY, how does one do a print screen now?? I have both paints on my pc & need to do printscreen occasionally .

After you press [Print Screen] you simply open any paint software and press [edit] then [paste] or you can just click anywhere on the blank section of a new page and press [Ctrl] [V]

I'm not sure if you were really just being sarcastic. *nerd*

Thats possible in regular Paint but I see no Edit/Paste in Paint3D.

NOT easy but I did it, patience is not my virtue, thank you :)

Not used to kb short cuts but will give it a try next time, thank you :)

The snipping tool really makes taking screenshots easier.

If patience is not your virtue that's just a better reason to learn these shortcuts. They will save you time, overall, once you learn them. Here's a link to get you started.

No point in trying to memorize them immediately. I'd suggest to print this list (no printer? even better yet, hand write them, you'll learn even faster) and just leave it on your desk in front of you. Look over it, and see what there is, then when applicable, refer back to the list. You'll learn them in no time just by using them in real life scenarios.

Once you learn that list, we can move on to some more. They will be much easier to learn once you have these down pat. :D

Snipping tool is great for still images, but when you're trying to capture a screenshot from the news or movie, it won't work.. I will bookmark this thread for later, thank you :)

Yeah, I figured as much. Apparently everyone else (including Techspot) assumed that "no longer updating" meant that it was dead and removed.

Paint will always be my goto screenshot editor, even if it would mean finding it on an older version of Windows...
