Did you search for the issue? If not, well, that is not much of a sample size.
Also, you can check in installed updates to see if you have the patch. Its KB number is mentioned in the article. If you do have the patch, consider yourself among the chosen ones.
IMO, this is a bogus argument. I have been running openSuSE on other machines and have had nowhere near the problems that I have had with updates on some of my Windohs 10 PCs. openSuSE is an open-source project, too. I think it is quite laughable that an open-source Linux distro and its updates is arguably more stable than Windohs 10 from M$.

Doesn't effect me, because I know where I put ALL my files. I never use search at all.

My work laptop has Windows 10, and with some tinkering and some pains, It's kinda working, what can go wrong, right?

What worked with Windows 7, now currently not working on Windows 10.
Explorer.exe experience memory leaks when moving data from external backups to my HDD, both 16 GB of physical and 24GB of virtual runs out faster than You could say "640K ought to be enough for anyone" - system crashes.
For the same reason Defraggler crashes, Duplicate Cleaner crashes.
Video players can hang and wait for 2 straight minutes before start playing a file.
But when running all the benchmark You could think of - It gives Me numbers You could find on the internet for the specific hardware.
I suppose It crashes because It doesn't keep up with sending all This data to Microsoft servers?
Seriously, how can You f*ck up something like that? Windows 7 just worked. Win 10 should be just an incremental upgrade. Why doesn't it work?
And how come tech community's power users, like for example TechSpot staff, doesn't put up some fight?
Is It working for You and I'm just imagining thing?
I'm like after a second reinstall, both from MS site, both on different pendrives.
I'm out of ideas.

That's something that European Comission should take a look at. Seriously, MS should be fined into oblivion. I got a $1000 brick that I cannot work with the way I worked with 2014 i5-4690k.

So I search for "update" in the start menu and instead of "Windows Updates" I get "Sports Update from MSN".
I don't want to use Cortana. I don't want to see Bing ads. Microsoft is ignoring my choices and forcing me to change settings in order to use my computer.

It isn't clickbait if it is 100% true. For me, this article is factual. Windows is breaking stuff with each patch. They have yet to fix stuff.

@midian182 I think the article sub-title is a bit of a misnomer. In my case, I had both - broken start menu search and one of my cpu cores was pinned.
Same thing happened to my home and my work computers. Turns out the updated defaulted all displays to 59HRz refresh rate. I changed each one to correct refresh in display settings and have had no further problems.

I defaulted my monitor to 72 hz and changed each one to the correct refresh rate, I still had the same problem
Its kinda weird because it normally happens when the video is about to end lol

I've only 4TB within 14K folders and 166K files. I'd wager that is more than most, but definitely not the most. You don't need search, when the folder structure gives hints as to where to go.

Did you use the POSready 2009 registry trick to update windows xp?
Unfortunately...I'm not going to expose my methods for properly disabling cortana because if it's properly disabled you literally can't search for anything at all. Secondly you should be using OpenShell anyways as a start menu. Their latest release and betas are on github.

Why aren't you seeing it plastered all over the internet? Because it's so common people blow it off as "well, it IS the worst OS, ever" and continue to punch holes in the wall. Kind of like how credit card theft and ID theft was big news. Now the theft has to be in the billions to even be bothered reporting on it. Scary times we live in, where nobody gives a crap about anyone but themselves. Hence the blanket statement of "vast majority" simply because only they don't seem to have issues. Especially when said person only uses it for email. Meanwhile you see droves of people yelling about it and all people do is call them trolls and look the other direction.

I noticed this search bug a while ago. I also have had search problems before where search wouldn't find almost anything. It took them months to fix it. This is the standard Microsoft holds these days. Absolute and utter horseshit. Let's not forget how Windows 10 became "the most popular OS".
Damn I must be a computer genius to never have seen a single one of these problems ever, on any of the dozens of machines Ive built. My main rig is customized to hell with various reg tweaks, scripts, disabled apps even Windows Search on my Surface... Nothing. No problems, ever.
Its most likely an end user issue, or restricted to a certain circumstance. I feel bad for most of you it sounds like you dont really know how to use a pc! Mac has got you covered they are trying to distance themselves from "personal computer" as much as possible.
