PlayStation 5 prototype photos surface online (updated)

Highly anticipated: Sony has already confirmed that a successor to the PlayStation 4 is in the works. With Sony electing to skip E3 2019 and these new photos surfacing, could an announcement be in the works for next summer?

Development kits for Sony’s PlayStation 5 have reportedly been in the hands of third-party devs for the better part of 2018 and now, we’re getting a glimpse of what the next-gen hardware may look like.

Update: False alarm... Rozetked is now reporting that it believes the photos are fakes.

Russian tech site Rozetked, which has an established track record for leaking tech gadgets, has published photos of an alleged PlayStation 5 prototype. The source who supplied the images claims it is running in bootloader mode.

Rozetked couldn’t vouch for the authenticity of the images and the source reportedly said the appearance of the console may change before it ships.

If it is a fake, someone clearly put a lot of time into the hoax as the images are clear and the design looks polished.

Sony earlier this month confirmed it will skip E3 2019, one of the biggest gaming conventions in the world. This sparked talk about the potential for Sony to announce the PS5 at a separate gathering, perhaps a PlayStation Experience event.

The PlayStation 5 is rumored to feature an eight-core AMD Ryzen CPU and launch sometime in 2020 at a retail price point of around $500. A patent application continuation from earlier this month hints at the possibility that a future controller design could feature a touchscreen display.

Too keep the costs down and heat down I probely tink REASON. 16 core o.c but the price in ps5 would go up.
WE just have to wait. pcie 4.0 GPUs on pc and we can play doubble bandwidth of pcie 3.0 what if ps gets a pcie 3.1 2 3 4 5 before its gets update version too 4.0 ?

No it for the pc. the bandwidt would be greater on pc then a ps5 if it only got pcie 3.0 and 4k 8k gaming would be like a ps4 pro all over again. no pcie 5.0 would needing a bigger power supply. think about the heat 1 st of all. TDP for gtx 1080 ti would be 105w in a few sek then go down to 95 w. so to put a pci 4 5 into a console would be overheat problem.

I dont get why everyone is complaining about having an 8 core ryzen the ps5 probably has been manufactured last year so its to be expected that it will be based on old style 8core ryzen if anything if a ps5 pro is released you can probably expect newer and improved hardware youre speaking of by then.

If you can play ps 1-5 game it would be nice. the 8 core are enoght. its not bad. yeah they probbley made a 8 core and 16 treads cpu with a gpu like rx 4xx 5xx or nvida gtx 10xx ti alike or intel 4xxx-6000 (if out) so to play heavy games like far cry 5 6 in that time would be nice. if the games are still in 1080 p 900p we just have too live with it. maybe dx 13 too. yeiiii.

They could easily increase the price to something like $699 and improve the hardware significantly to handle 4k @ 60

If consoles want to convert more to its marketshare away from PC offer options.

I want to play 1920x1080 @ 144hz
I want to play 3840x2160 @ 60hz

This way they can offer lower end, entry model and a high end model.

O.c you can play 1k easely and 4k-8k with a 8 core cpu. the only problem in higher resolutions is tearing and not enough bandwidt to show live gaming. if you now try out some benchmarks games in 1k-8k there would be fps drops even on greatest spec pc console. if the console gets dx12 games it would improve gaming and watching 8k movies on 8k screen atleast 60 htz.

then you could be pc console gaming in high fps but hardware needed to get 120 htz and so on must be on market.
netflix 8k on satelite antenna with only 100 gb use would be insame. 1tb per 5 min in 8k recording streaming raw
so you could watch 1 min the go to lover bandwidt becorse you used up youre lovely 100 gb space. and you have to wait for nxt month to wats it on... and so on. if you pause every time and waiting for it to recover and servers does not reset youre safe.
so if you get a 10 gb line and watching like a pro 8k and beyond that but you using fiber optic lines it would be no problem.
it 149 000 nok every month for 10 gb lin on altibox norway SIGNAL broadband.
streaming cost and so on. even clsosets nodes have to be about 100-1000 10000 gb to hanndle that traffic. so getting pci 4.0 5 would increase game load and streaming in realtime.
so if you get a ps 5 in this 2 years prototype test it and it can hannndle 4k 60 and 8k netflix with lan of 100-10000 you could go for it in to the future.
1 st of all the fiber optics need competison to go down in/on price.
5g lines nedding 9999 petabytes to watch one new 1.5 tb-3.3 tb media disk from SONY.
4k+ are maybe out then in 2020.

No one needs more than 8 cores for gaming, specially with Vulkan and OpenGl. Lets remember playstation doesnt use directx.

What consoles need is something that distinguish them from a PC and they are closer and closer to PCs wich takes away my interest. Apart from nintendo switch

4k @ 60fps should be achievable with good GPU on the consoles by 2020, but hardware is most likely going to be finalized by 2019 (if not already) for the release.

$700 console would deter half of their customers, and Sony wants big playerbase for income from PS Plus.

This will never happen because of the PS3

That system was expensive on its release and came with everything players begged for, backwards compatability, bluray. top tier processing power........and people cried because of its price.

the ps3 didnt evolve over its lifetime, sony chopped it down so people could afford it, skip ahead to the ps4 release and you had a box that was a shell of the ps3 on its release, but hey everyone could buy it, ps4 was so iffy and weak that they released the pro to fix it which let sony have the last laugh because now people have spent pretty much 800-900 bucks to play playstation if they bought both systems, so now sony knows that their playerbase is too dumb to take a complete system if the price is a bit steep on day 1, instead they'll glady spend more to dive in quick then repurchase later when they nudge the specs up a bit.

Er, because 8 decent cores are way more than adequate and there's no point in increasing the costs if there will be no benefits to end users. It's not a video editing workstation, it's a games console and most of the heavy lifting will be handled by the GPU. The less money you spend on CPU, the more you can spend on the GPU. This also applies to the thermal budget.

yeah o.c hdd ssd. but offline saving must still be there. cant save anyting online when there are no lines. so getting 4g+ 5g+ you can be everywhere with no lines atached. the wife/wifi support 5g into the future. even saving on youre mob phone and sharing ingame id DID it to friends.

No. I personally have a PC. There is little point in spending extra on a console.

If it still has the same operating system. Which is designed mainly for gaming, yes it would still be a console.

A console with batterybacup like laptop. an warrning on low battery and change battery. play when lighning outside. UPS. I stoped playing at ps3 and Xbox 360. no im at pc that are more powerfoul then xb 1 one S ps1 2 3 4 pro. but taking a console with you are easy. laptop are easy too. so both gaming consoles pcs are getting trough on marked 4k me.

and SONY must not abandon those web cams and so on so fast. I can use yerars to getting back to console gameing. so leaving it 6 years and so on would be nice to have.
if a game only gets to ps5 would I buying it or just leaven it to never play that or those game ?
if you could make games on a console and copyrigt it to your child mother fater granpha grandma unckle it would be easier to make small and maye youre own game of a bad game.
