Problem Getting Motherboard to Recognise AMD Athlon XP2700+ (Newbie)

Hi there,

I have just put together my first system, but I cannot get my motherboard, an Asus A7V400-MX, to recognise the AMD Athlon XP2700+ processor. It just seems to pick it up as an XP1500 with a speed of around 1300MHz.

I have flashed the BIOS to the latest revision, but this hasn't helped.

Is there anything I've missed?

I hope that one of you can help.

Many thanks in advance.

Tim

Tried setting the FSB to 166mhz ? You at least have PC2700 ram btw ?

Welcome to TechSpot. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi Didou,

Thanks for your quick response.

I am using a 512MB stick of Crucial DDR2700 memory, which I hope is OK.

I have not changed the FSB setting to 166MHz, mainly because the Current FSB Frequency option in the BIOS menu is greyed out and cannot be changed.

There is an option to change the DRAM clock from 100 to 133. Would this help?

Also there are some switchs on the motherboard that the manual says are for changing the CPU external frequency, with the options being 100Mhz, 133MHz, 166MHz and 200MHz. However, the manual says that the CPU must be unlocked for these switches to work. Any thoughts?

The CPU musn't be unlocked for you to change the FSB. It must be unlocked for you to change the multiplier but that is not what we're trying to do right now. Set the External Frequency jumper to 166mhz.
