Resetting Windows XP

Seems like that isn't an ideal use of an old computer (storing pictures), since you can just accomplish this with an external hard drive or even USB stick. However, if that is really all you want to do with it you could consider a light linux distribution such as PuppyLinux , you can store your photos with that and have a fully functional OS that can be networked without the security concerns that XP brings.
Ok, I downloaded PUPPY LINUX.JPG to a flashdrive, how do I install/run it?

I always use google but have a difficult time knowing which of the 10.000.000.000.000.000.replies are good
I should add, I was told its best to use it from a flashdrive so I got it on a flashdrive. To go from there to using it is what I need to know. Post # 14

Hi! Yes, that can be a problem. Here's a video. There are several, but this is one of the better ones. Maybe another member will join us that knows more about this then myself?

Your welcome. I'm sure you won't have any trouble learning Slacko Puppy! I use UBUNTU and I'm still learning about it. It's kind a fun learning another OS beside Windows. We probably have some members here that run Linux and hopefully they will join us.

The whole thing with Puppy is it is intended to be ran without installing. You just put it on a flash drive and boot from it. Yes, it can be ran from the internal hard drive, but that sidesteps the point. I said that in post #21, and linked the instructions...

You just made me much happier. So, I put it on a flashdrive & then set that XP to boot from the flashdrive & it should work?? :)

You could modify XP's boot loader to throw a menu on what to boot from if that is what you mean. But I would just forget XP all together, you've said it is/was all corrupted, it is no longer supported, and you were only wanting to store photos to begin with. So, it makes sense to only use that internal hard drive as photo storage. So the simplest way would be just set the BIOS to boot from USB as the first option. Then once you are in Puppy, find the internal hard drive, reformat it, and then store photos on it.

Hi! You can find all you need about Puppy Linux by searching. http://puppylinux.com/
You can find a lot about Puppy Linux right here on TS "Reviews"
https://www.techspot.com/community/topics/how-to-boot-with-puppy-linux-to-recover-your-data.155947/
Let us know how things go.
So what you are saying is there is NO single link to go to , to get puppy linux? I'm not looking for a tutorial, instructions, directions, just a single link I can click to get puppylinux like you would do to get firefox from TS.

I know I can use google, but I don't know which of the 10.000.000.000.000. possibilities is good :) I will hope your first link works :)

What I am saying is I have been trying the options shown in that picture so I can change the boot order to flashdrive but the options shown in that picture do not take me to where I can do such. I will try the link you gave me & will try google again, thanks for your patience, new territory here :)

Hi Friend. Lets wait and maybe other members will join us tomorrow. I have no clue at this time what you're trying to do. Are you trying to boot with the Puppy Linux you created?? I want to help, but I have no clue where you are going.:D Do you not see the option to boot from USB flash?

I've got what I hope it the puppylinux on a flashdrive which is in the pc now, I'm trying to change the boot order to see if I have it correct. I know its late so perhaps tomorrow would be better, thank you :)
