So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

I sent a message to albatron and here is what they said:

My Sent Message:

" Are you guys reallying releasing the 8400 and 8600 in
PCI bus? If so, what are the specs, whats the price, and are
they going to be sold nationwide within the united
states? "
.....................

His message

" I have on PCI the following models:

PCI5200-128 ( 128MB / DDR1 )

PCI6200A-128 ( 128MN / DDR2 )

PCI8400GS-256 ( 256MB / DDR2 )

PCI8500GT-256X ( 256MB / DDR3 )

PCI8600GT-256X ( 256MB / DDR3 )

All these cards are in mass production.

Right now I do not have a partner in US to sell these cards, but it is
in volume, you can buy from me directly.

Best regards,

Robert "

Hi guys,

Sorry to make my first post a request for help but you were recommended by electromagnetic as being knowledgable PCI card gamers.. (when I was posting on the Dell forums, no joy there so far).

A technical issue with getting a PCI Card (sparkle 8500GT) to run in an older Dell 2400 (P4 3.06hz, 2Gb RAM).

Problem is the system doesn't seem to be detecting the card.

XP seems to pick up the card as a 'PCI to PCI bridge' only (I get that message in a bubble when I physically install the card then boot up, and it also comes up as that in device manager). Can't install the nvidia drivers because the installer says there's no drivers for the hardware I have (i.e. it's not detecting the card). Card bought from ebay from a seller with 100s of good feedback and said it's been tested and guaranteed for 6 months.

Any ideas? I've been googling this one and no joy.. so just wondering if any hardcore PCI gamers have run into anything like this.

(btw I am aware that on the Dell 2400 you have to disable the integrated graphics, I have followed the exact instructions on that, it makes no difference, card still not detected as a graphics card by XP).

Just wondering, do you have the facotry power supply? If so, you may want to upgrade as they aren't all that great.

I do not know if this could be causing the computer to detect it as a PCI to PCI bridge, though.

Also btw, remember when i said that the 6200 or 2400 card was too powerful for my computer. Well that isn't the case. I thought becaue the higher the bandwidth, the slower the game will be , and my fx5500 which i am using now was having that problem. Until i switch to an older driver.

So the bandwidth is not the problem, its the driver. Using the 81.98 for my FX5500. Everything game which i was having trouble with is working perfect. Sadly, the Visiontek 2400 hd pro doesn't have a correct driver that works for the card. Neither does the 6200, even tho i haven't tested all with the 6200.

Nevertheless, yea maybe if i had a powerful CPU, the 2400 might work better, but with a alright computer and without the correct driver, the 2400 won't work.

I cant wait for the new cards to come out tho. In the mean time, i will use my fx5500 and maybe test out the 6200 more, and also, look into buying and testing out the diamond version of the 2400.

Why not install the drivers without the card in your PC then add the card to your PC.
Or manual in device driver display adapters add the driver if the card is there ?

Or change the card if still got probs.

Tha General where is the 8500GT Albatron link.

The 8500, 8400, 8600 new pci cards from albatron , as i am told is suppose to be listed on their site june 10th, 2008. I will check their site late tomorrow

Help Please

Hi Everyone

First post from myself and I have a question I know this board can answer.
I have an Dell Dimension 2400 Series and if I act right now this guy I know is selling a
VisionTek Radeon X1550 - Graphics adapter - Radeon X1550 - PCI - 256 MB DDR II - DVI - HDTV out (sorry I just copied and pasted the same card from the net).
He's selling really cheap but I have to know if it will work with a 250 W PSU.
I have to give him an answer in the next couple hours so if anyone could help I'd think they were the second coming, or just really nice.

Thanks

^ Yes it would cause 250watts is the minimum power required for the card..300watts is recommended

250 should be enough, the X1550 cards only need 35watts of power and the GPU stays cool. It mention this over at wikipedia.

Is there a chance you can find the Diamond Version?

I think the Diamond version of the x1550 requires a 420watt psu..I remember seeing that on newegg.com

Bonjour,

I remember my HIS x1550 i-Fan PCI needed 450 watts. First, I've got a 150 watts, but it doesn't work, only on XP "VGA mode". I bought a 450 watts, but 300 might be enough...

The Albatron 8500 GT owns the Sparkle 8500 GT in specs with its DDR 3 memory and 1 GHz mem clock and is much cheaper as well. The 8600 GT is going to be awesome and I look to procure one someday.

I want to see the 8800 in GT or GTS or GTX, etc. for PCI before I make a rig with PCI-E 2.0 slots. That would be awesome and I know there is definitely a niche market for these PCI cards.

Yea the person from the site, told me to look forward to 2 more cards being listed on the site. You can forget about a 88 or GTS or GTX, i am not looking forward to seeing them, because i don't believe it will happen. I just plan to buy a new computer, a secondary one only for new games.

But i am hype about buying one of these PCI cards for my computer to game on. I am positive i should be able to play some of the newer games better with one of those cards, and i can't wait!

But to be honest, buying a new secondary computer is nice and all, but i am just thinking about using this computer which i have now and just upgrade the CPU one day, but stick to PCI. So once i see the results from the New PCI card, i will go from there. Most Likely, i will game with PCI for years to come, you know as long as i can play my games, i have no need for secondary computer. So questions right now, thats all. :)

There is no point releasing 8800 cards for PCI, since their performance will be not even close to 50% of what you would get with the same card in a PCI-E slot. Even the 8600GT in PCI will be severely restricted by the low bandwidth supplied by the PCI bus.

They can keep making PCI cards, which is always great news to me, however they have to keep it cool, meaning don't over do it in terms of specs.

I say if you are going to release an 8600 GT why not an 8800 version for PCI? The PCI-E bus is 15.4 times faster than PCI, so of course the power would be bottlenecked, but I noticed a huge increase in performance of my old Sparkle 8500 GT over my FX5500 on the PCI bus despite the bandwidth bottleneck, so IMO it is still worth it for the smaller niche market of PCI users. That's 6.5% the speed of a PCI-E slot as opposed to the 50% or less figure, but older games will play like a dream on full settings (Half Life 2, Oblivion, etc).

Really looking forward to the 8600 GT as a stopgap GPU and hoping someone will make an 8800, if not, we should be thankful for the 8600 GT at least, as most people shun supporting the PCI bus interface any longer for GPUs.

Well, I don't doubt it. In the PC world, 13-14 years is like a couple generations. Basic PCI has to end sometime, and considering how many more cards are appearing mainstream as PCIX1 or X2, I think this might be the last generation of PCI cards that will be made. AGP is already dead due to increasing cost (just like normal DDR RAM), PCI is on it's way too.

I do find it odd, though, that they made an 8 series GeForce card for PCI and not AGP. I mean, I've even seen the Sapphire Radeon HD3850 AGP.

Hey Everyone

Im looking to buy a pci gfx card to replace my old fx 5200 for a Dell Dimension 2400.
Problem is i live in NZ and cant buy overseas so ive found two cards to choose from locally a EVGA 6200 256mb $90 NZD(67 US) or a Powercolor HD 2400 Pro 256mb $120 NZD(90 US) and i was wondering is the HD 2400 that much more powerful to warrant a purchase or should i just grab the 6200.

You sure you can't simply order one of the Albatron cards directly and have it shipped to you? The Albatron cards own both of those you mentioned, but if you can't order from Albatron, the Powercolor card is better since they are both 64-bit. BTW, you don't want to mess with 64-bit cards because they are way underpowered and are nowhere as good as the 128-bit ones.
