So you only have PCI slots and want to game?

You might try modding that card by removing the original heat sink and placing something smaller on the card so it will go in your PC.

Well i don't feel like going through all that trouble. Right now, i have a certain amount of money put aside for next month. I said before that my next buy is one of the Albatron cards, because i might have a chance to buy one sometime next month. If i am not able too, i will buy the sparkle 8500GT and see how it goes.

And, I recommend taking up someone on their offer to send you a free PIII as I see lots of people offering on the many sites General posts to.

Whats the point? I am buying my secondary computer next month sometime. A gateway intel dual core 2 with a Diamond 4670 card. My PIII is my main computer and its cool to what it is. I understand what everyone is saying, its nice to have a better P3 with higher speeds, but its alright. Thanks anyways. :)

If i need to change the speed on this computer, i have someone who would do it at my local pc shop.

Btw Teklord, you know i have agp onboard in my system. I can use it, i wonder why intel added agp onboard, but no agp slot on the 810 motherboard. I found this out today, in my bios i can switch to AGP.

I might get the powercolor hd2400 pci but my Pny 6200 will do for now, no really into buying just yet. Need to sell ( off topic a bit here ) music CD's, some vinyl records, and some PC games. How do you post stuff which you sell on e bay, how do you sort the P&P and get the pancels to sell ?

This means that you have AGP capability built into your mobo, but they never soldered on the AGP slot, just like my mobo. I have AGP 4x capability but there is no slot for it soldered on and you can't do it yourself either.

As for Electromagnetic, I advise saving for a 8500GT as you can definitely get one in the UK as that is where I originally ordered mine from. eBay tips, make sure to make your ads as attractive as possible to get the most money for your stuff. That is the best advice I can offer.

I'm between sticking another 8500GT PCI in this machine or replacing the mobo altogether which will cost more but yield far better results. I may leave my rig as it is for now and when I really want to game, do the mobo switch to PCI-e 2.0. :approve:

offtopic : It is a bit tricky. calculating postage is very hard, I try and reuse packaging from other things , then wrap it in brown paper. getting the postage cost right impossible to do accurately in advance. I find the only way is to wrap the parcel with no address and take it to the post office to get an accurate cost. My home scales are not accurate enough and I never get it right. Either that or approximate the postage. Quite a few ebayers seem to inflate the postage cost to make more profit, and I'm very wary of doing that. I used to have a note in my auctions explaining that once the bidder won , I'd get them a more accurate postage cost, but I think people like to know upfront.

I also think it's worth accepting paypal if you can as more people like to pay that way. paypal is a bank which charges you for paying money in or taking it out, so it's a bit of a rip off. however if you leave the money in paypal and use it to buy more stuff with it's not too bad.

I agree that the auction should be as attractive as possible. I use a desktop tool to create my auctions and then upload them. It has 30+ templates to make them look better . eBay have templates but they charge you for them. I use GarageSale on a Mac for auctions which look pretty cool.

I'd also suggest looking at completed auctions for similar items. there is a 'completed' button on the left hand side of search. This shows you what your item might go for and you can learn from the more successful auctions.

I'm listing some controller boards at present. I've got a stack of 3.5" disks with bad blocks which I replaced from various PC's. there seems to be some market for the controller boards, as sometimes these go in other wise healthy disks. I then cannibalise the rest of the disk, the magnets go on the fridge, the shiny platter is a cool mirror/bird scarer and the high grade aluminium chassis goes for scrap metal :)

Here are the stats for the 8500GT Albatron version:

Did you acquire this yourself and this is a screen shot off your PC? Congrats if it is. Looks almost identical to the Sparkle incarnation.

Can someone confirm this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129072

Visiontek made a x1300 with a 128bit bus?
Plus look at the core and memory clock, its at 533/450 and the bandwidth is at 8gb. I can't really confirm this tho.

That one is listed incorrectly at 128 bit, it really is 64 bit which I found out when I called Visiontek. There are some uses for 64 bit cards I think as there are several that are more powerful than my FX 5500, but I would go straight to the Sparkle 8500GT since it is similarly priced anyways.

This month , well in a few weeks say 2 weeks i might be able to buy one of the albatron cards. I will let everyone know if i get lucky. I am going to try to take some photos of the cards if i am not able to get one tho lol. But if everything works out, i might have the 8600GT this month. I hope it works good too.

Hey everyone, just got late word, Amy from Powercolor just told me that AMD is releasing the ATI Radeon 3450 For " PCI Solution ", but no word on but so far no news for HD4K series yet.

Interesting indeed......

IMO, Sparkle 8500GT is better because 1) Sparkle 8500GT is 128-bit, HD 3450 is 64-bit 2) the PCI-e 8500GT variant has superior stats over the HD 3450 PCI-E version Here is a link comparing the PCI-e versions

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=514&card2=555

I think everyone should get a Sparkle 8500GT PCI while waiting for the Albatron 8600GT to come out, only problem is that 8600GT is only slightly more powerful so it hardly seems justified purchasing it after the 8500GT unless you sell your old 8500GT to compensate.

And as always, no one should have a PCI video card at all unless they feel stuck with it or don't want to pay more for the mobo swap which includes often times buying than just another mobo and GPU.

hey guys,
i only have standard PCI slots i'm debating getting either the 8500GT or Radeon 2400. i found the 2400 on newegg.com but can't seem to find the 8500GT for sale anywhere online. from what i've been reading in this thread, the 8500GT is better than the Radeon 2400, right? so where can i find it?? i live in the US...

Tigerdirect should have it.

And here is the link: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3422142&CatId=319

wow thanks a lot for the quick reply. i guess that was easy enough to find...hah i'm obviously no expert in this field. actually, could i get some feedback from u guys on which one - Sparkle 8500GT ($100) or Powercolor HD 2400Pro ($50) - i should get for my computer? my specs are:

eMachines T2862
2.67GHz Intel Celeron D 330 Processor (Single core)
256K L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB
Intel 845GV chipset on mobo
2GB DDR SDRAM
Intel Extreme Graphics 3D (64MB Integrated/Shared Memory)
Sound: AC '97 Audio
2 *Available* PCI Slots (No AGP/PCI-Express Slots)

this computer is from 2005 so i know i'm not gonna get absolute top performance out of it or anything, but i'd like to be able to play some of the newer games with good quality/speed. between these cards, is there a huge advantage for one over the other in my case? is the GeForce 8500GT's 128-bit memory being double the Radeon 2400Pro's 64-bit interface mean double the performance, and therefore worth double the price??

thanks guys

The 8500GT is 100 dollars, and its the 3rd best PCI card out. The 2400HD , i am using the VisiontkeK 2400HD and it plays new games pretty good, old games are getting better, its a alright card if you have a super computer. The powercolor is a great card, but the 8500GT should be a better choice. So if you can spare the 100 go for it, if not, just get the powercolor 2400HD.

As for performance, the 8500GT would run circles around the 2400HD.

You have a good enough CPU so that neither card will be CPU limited (And your CPU should be quite overclockable, too). On the PCI-E, the 8500GT is about twice as powerful as the HD2400Pro, and it also overclocks very well (The PCI8500GT in my sig is overclocked 56% on the cores and around 13% on the memory). While it is not likely the card is twice more powerful on the PCI bus, the difference is still massive.

Does anyone know where i can find the nVidia GeForce FX 5600 PCI version?

When i buy my new secondary computer with a Diamond 4670 card, i am going back to using windows98se with this computer which i am using now, so i can enjoy my older games in peace. I have notice using the 6200 is ok with win98se, but using my FX5500 is superior with win9x, and i plan to keep that card.

But the FX5600 seems way more powerful then the FX5500, so now i am on the hunt to find it.
It seems like the last cards that work with windows98se with PCI slots, are the FX5500, 6200, and FX5600 from Nvidia. I heard that using the beta 82.69 they support the 8 series, but i can't confirm that.

Also from ATI, the last card which works under win9x/PCI is the 9250, which is a shame.
i have found this tho:

5600%20box.jpg

Which is in PCI, so i am going to try my best to get the card over to newegg.

I got a question.... I got a PCI slot and will a 8500/8600GT run cod4 well? like a 40+ fps? or should I wait for the Radeon 3450? When it comes out how much better will it be better than the 8500/8600 GT?

The HD3450 won't be more powerful than the 8500GT or 8600GT

Is there a 8600 GT 512mb edition? I just want to be able to run cod4 on all low settings and a decent fps...

A 8600GT with DDR3 memory doesn't need 512MB. I won't use that much in any case. The difference in performance between the 256MB DDR3 version and the 512MB DDR3 version on the PCI-E are nonexistent, it won't be different on the PCI.

Can you link me to one? I need a 256mb card for I wont have to upgrade my PSU( I think)
