Ok so my friend asked me to try and fix their computer, it randomly stopped working and when i try and boot windows normally and i get alot of things...

i got the blue screen of death once, and it said to attemp and boot windows normaly again, i tryed safe mode but it never booted up, now i have a message that says a disk read error occurred press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart, but it only brings me back to the same screen...

so is her hard drive shot, or is there a chance i can just re-install windows?

Use your friends pc to backup your data if you have anything you want to save. Use the CD/ROM connection unplug the ribbon and connect the your HDD to it. Boot up their PC you might have to reboot their PC under XP again to since it will detect new HDD. Second time around copy off what you want to save. Now reconnect their CD/DVD whatever they have. Remove yor HDD and put it back into your PC install a new copy of XP.
