XP Emachine

I installed and ran it for 4-5 months on an extra machine. Download is quick. Install is fairly quick. It then takes 30 minutes to analyze what is on the system already. I think it starts with a basic scan using blacklisted programs (typical anti-virus) - then it catalogues all programs and checks that against their central repository of 'white' programs. Anything it does not recognize may be red flagged - but within a couple of hours someone on staff checks it and can give a green flag.

When they give a red flag on something I think is 'ok', I go along with the red flag ON A TEMPORARY BASIS...just to say, don't run this yet -wait for them to check it out.

I hope I answered what you are asking.

Ok, I know I'm wrong, but your first sentence sounds like it takes 4 to 5 months to run it, but I think it means you ran it for 4-5 months. Good enough, will try to run it again.

Not your fault, probably emachine fault. Once I get ALL the MS updates, I will re try it. I will also try to get a browser installed, any antique suggestions? :)

Yes, but it won't install. Grrr. It says " Sorry, Firefox can't be installed. This version of Firefox requires a processor with SSE2 support. Please click OK button for additional information.

IF I'm reading it correctly, AMD Athlon XP
There are quite a few of those. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_XP_microprocessors

They all support SSE. It does look as if there are only a few that support SSE2. Do you see a brand and model number written on the motherboard. There should be a label around the CPU or card/memory slots. There should also be a board revision number, that may be of importance. Bare with me, I'm not familiar with AMD and need to look everything up as we go. But if you don't want to bother, just say the word.
