We have a computer running XP with SP2. My FIL was watching a racing video when all the sudden everything got HUGE and the computer froze. Tried to reboot and now it hangs at the splash screen. The scroller stops.

I tried setting /sos to watch the drivers but it appears to make it past that. I've tried disabling the cd-rom which doesn't work and other things. I can get into safe mode no problem. I'd really like to not have to format and reinstall. Any ideas why it may have happened randomly while watching a video and now will not boot? I tried system restore with several dates and I still get the same thing.

Download the latest version of your VPU drivers in Safe Mode with Networking or on another PC. Uninstall your VPU's current drivers in Safe Mode.

Start>Run>devmgmt.msc>Click + next to Display Adapters>Right click your VPU and click Uninstall.

Reboot and install the new drivers.

That got me further. Now after 10 seconds or so of it showing the logon names, it gives me a blank black screen with a flashing cursor.
