The R9 390X delivered a playable 39fps at 1600p in The Witcher 3, faring 8% better than the R9 390 and 3% better than the R9 290X. The R9 390X was just 3% slower than the GTX 980 and the R9 390 was just 3% faster than the R9 290 along with a surprising 13% lead over the GTX 970.
The R9 380 was good for 37fps at 1080p, making it much faster than the R9 285 -- 32% faster, which seems odd. This may be a driver issue. Despite thrashing the R9 285, the R9 380 was 16% slower than the R9 280X and it beat the GTX 960 by a convincing 19% margin.
When benchmarking with Watch Dogs at 1600p we find that the R9 390X was capable of 56fps or 10% faster than the R9 390 and 14% faster than the R9 290X. That said, it was still 8% slower than the GTX 980. For its part, the R9 390 was 11% faster than the R9 290 while matching the GTX 970.
The R9 380 was slightly faster than the R9 285 and GTX 960, rendering just 1fps more at 1080p for a 2% performance advantage, while the R9 380 was 7% faster than the R9 280X.
