Dell BIOS Password Removal

I have used the paper clip method and it worked fine for me many times. I have used that method for several years and occasionally it fails but you may have to repeat the process a couple of times on the stubborn ones. Also, most of the time you have to jump across the second set of pins, sometimes you have to try the third set. I solder wires that are long enough to stick out of the pcmcia slot, then assemble the machine. Once you do the paper clip thing, you can cut off the wire that sticks out of the slot then use a small screw driver to push the remaining wire back into the case.

i tried the paper clip trick and it did not work
I am not sure as the D800 is a very late machine and Dell tries to stop the cracking by making it tougher. I woukd try Shorting after the boot starts and at time varying from milliseconds up to as long as 6-7 seconds. Also try 3/6, 4/6, and 4/5 pin sets
Dell also amends/updates the SVCTAG.EXE files used to reset Service Tags after the shorting takes you a Manufacturing Mode Screen, and also increases the number. Since I started all this about 2 years ago, the EEProm Erase files have increased by two.The original files I had were EE-XP, EE-CP, EE-CPA, EE-LS and EE-LS2. EE-Value and EE-CPB have been now added as of 7-20-05. There is a later version of the software out at this time, but I have not been able to find a copy except once , and was out bid on that one. I have had 2 reports from folks that EE-CPB comes back with an error and refuses to reset the Service Tag after the shorting on some of the later models. AS I have said a few times, this is a work in progress and will probably never be finished

Ok I will tell you what I got and where I am at on this.

I got a inspiron 5100 and I can't get into the bios <like everyone else>
BUT I got the password for the harddrive which is ...um dell <yea don't you wish they were all that easy?>

And I tryed a billion different passwords which would be as simple for the bios and no such luck BUT thats not the problem the problem is the winxp got messed up <its my friends> and I cannot fix it with that drive since it doesn't boot to cd since someone who had it before messed with the boot options and so thats not a option <stinks> and so if i get another drive no biggie.

I could just take that laptop drive put it into another laptop START the winxp install <the part where it says copying files to your drive and does the FIRST RESTART>
then take the drive put it back into the dell laptop and put the winxp cd in there and poof we got winxp installing.

THE PROBLEM I got only one harddrive for my current laptop and don't have any xtra ones and so I am to the point where this password MUST DIE!

I allready got the svctag software and ran it in dos
<why not windows? well my drive has winxp and ain't to happy to be in a new laptop and made it very clear about this> SO I cut my drive and installed os selector and put on win98 as well but found out the svctag works best in dos from what I have seen anywayz.....I can change the to anything I want but the pass is THERE still so I know I am doing something wrong.

Shorting is LOOKING REALLY GOOD right now and I was avoiding it since I am not sure what 2 pins / from what angle <your left or my left :haha: > to do it BUT this is allready day 4 and I'm pissed like every OTHER DELL USER :haha: .

and its not even MY DELL to make it worse! Anywayz I need your help so PLEASE email me ALSO I saw you needed hosting well I got your back fir that BIG file you said you got <this is all in the mails I sent you the other day>

AGAIN I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR BEING A GOOD SPORT AND HELPING THESE PEOPLE OUT! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS GUY DON'T HAVE TO DO THIS! he is just being nice and helping out and for that I give this guy a 10 without even thinking about it!

In other words YOU FREAKING ROCK!

Love to get you in chat some day and talk some tech with ya!

Try pin sets 4/6 and 4/5. On the late model chips, let the machine start to boot before shorting; the time to delay after pressing the Power switch should be varied from no delay to as long as 6-7 seconds. There is apparently a "sweet spot" which can vary from machine to machine, where the boot is far enough along that it does not simply shut down, but is not yet locked and committed to the Password Grey Screen.

thanks for the quick reply

You may not have cleared the EEProm Completely. In my Additions file, I recommend not hitting Fn+X or rebooting, but instead put the DST diskette or DST CDR in the drive and boot up with it, then delete and reset your service tag; that also erases the EEProm chip and finishes the job. I would go back and short again to the MM Screen, then run the DST file. Contact me at email removedfor the DST files and my Additions file. No charge

Ben,
If you have laready tried F2 to get into BIOS without success, you may like to go to the top of this page, there is a guy who has already done with a D505. Try him/her if you have not yet done so.

Paragon,

Thanks for the 2 e-mails sent to me recently. I have read thru the 63 pages and I found it to be great and I am confident that I can do it, though I have not yet dismantle my CPiA yet. When I am done, possibly this weekend, I will report back.

i tried boot cd posted....i have Inspiron 1150

Mr Plain Key,

I finally cracked the Primary BIOS Password on an Inspiron 1150. It required obtaining a USB 2.0 Bootable Floppy Drive to run the diskette I previously spoke about. But first, shorting the 24LC16B
requires shorting a different set of connections than the well documented 3rd from the left end, bottom and top for the 24C02 Chip; 4th from the left on the bottom and 3rd from the left on top
Is needed for the 24LC16B. The first three conections on the bottom side are not even conected on this chip, only the 4th which is the VSS(ground) connection. Using these 2 cleared the chip to Manufacturing Mode and then running the diskette reset the ServiceTag with normal operation thereafter and NO Passwords

Password Needed - No Success

I was hoping someone could generate a password for me. I haven't had much luck getting the Pw_lattitude.exe to work. My service tage is 800TT31-595B. It would be greatly appreciated if someone could use there working copy to help me remove the BIOS password so that the "L" can be removed from my forehead that my wife sees there (she apparently believes that since I work in an IT area that this should be easy to do).

Thanks!
Steve

Success - Dell Latitude CPi A400XT

I unscrewed the keyboard screws, pryed the keyboard and flipped it up and over, unscrewed and removed the heat sink, removed the cpu board and voila, I saw the 24C02.

I soldered 2 small wires to pins 3 and 6 and leads out thru the vent hole, replaced CPU board, replace heat sink, powered it up and then shorted the small wires that led out the vent hole, nothing happened, admin passwords were still in the BIOS.

Then, I powered it off, twisted the lead conductors together, powered it on again, I went into the BIOS, voila, all BIOS passwords were gone but the service tag was still intact! I removed the CPU board again and removed the wires (a mistake here, I should have let the wires under the CPU board for future clearing of passwords so that I do not have to solder again, its a delicate operation).

I could not remove the password on the HDD though I know the HDD's password.
