OK so your Hard disk is protected by a password,,,, your stuffed we don't have a method (yet) for getting rid of the protection, sorry you will have to buy a new HD.

I can't send you the photos and a walk through to do the paper clip method , you will have to buy the manual from the writer who's link is at the website here.

Good luck and do keep us informed

d810 sucess

Thanks to the guys on this thread for all the good info.

I found the chip about 5cm away from the speaker ports on the top side of the board , about 1cm away from the broadcom chip. on the middle line of the chip is "24c04n"

I couldnt use the paper clip as the chip is under the graphics card. Soldered a wire to pins 3 and 6 , then connected them when needed. I _strongly_ suggest using "kynar" or "wire wrap" wire, it's thin and single strand and bends easily and stays bent (I use it a lot for modding xbox's).

I had to "jump" the connector in the "dell" screen about half way along the progrss bar. I just held it on untill the manufacturing mode screen came up.

From there I went into the bios, then ran the boot disk to reset the tags. All done, thanks for coming.

I emailed paragon for the info pack, but I don't need it now, all the files on his site will be all you need (as well as some eagle eyes for the chip for diff boards).

Cheers to those involved with making this public (and free)

With the pdf, it helps you to understand better, without it, you can still clear the EEPROM that Paragon33 mentioned many times. If you are not familiar with your Dell D600, goto Dell's support website and download the service manual with which you can take your D600 apart easily and confidently. Locate the EEPROM and do the paperclip method. Once you open up your D600, its really easy and a piece of cake to erase the password.

1st step, download D600 service manual from Dell support website
2nd step, read the manual until you are familiar with the taking apart details
3rd step, start taking it apart with proper tools, i.e. a proper Philips head screw driver or you will strip the screws
4th step, find the EEPROM and be familiarized with Paragon's thread on loacating the EEPROM.
5th step, paperclip the EEPROM as mentioned by Paragon33.

Whether you are going to buy the pdf from dellpass on eBay, you still need steps 1 to 3. Comeback to this forum if you have any problems in performing any of the steps.

Hi, my your hardwork, I dont see any reason why the drive should fail in the dell, unless you have an issue with the ide controller, do you have any HD's that boot in the dell?.

Try what you suggested and let us know, I take it you are putting the drive in the dell with the blade adpator thingy that converts the drive to a dell , (if not it wont see the drive,

The adaptor thingy converts from the pins of the HD to a single line and is black, I keep forgetting to put it on when I change drives

see here http://homepage.ntlworld.com/judslat/paragon/adaptor.html
Hey Paragon you reading this thread and do you have any thoughts :haha:

Many thanks for letting me bounce this back and forth with you and I know I must have been a bit of a pain and sound loopy :giddy: I just wanted to get it all clear before having a shot at it.

Anyway, the good news is that the first drive I used from the Tosh worked today and I can now say that the BIOS on my Dell C600 is now unlocked, allowing me to change and enable boot devices which was my goal. I was using the little black strip to change the interface but perhaps I had not seated the drive correctly.

So thanks very much to all, especially to you Ididmyc600 for being patient with me ;)

Very good site and excellent knowledge base, will defintely visit again for more tips :grinthumb

Keep up the most excellent work chaps

Yes it does apply to the D400 , The chip is located on the left side of the Laptop under the keyboard,

Remember though you can use the software password generator to get the master password if your service tag does not end in 595B.

I suugest you have a good read through the last few pages of this thread, it's where there are links to my site that has all that you need, as well as user input from people who have managed to reset their Passwords.

Any more help ??? then please post...

I know i should be getting ready for my 3 day break but I just can't help helping...... :haha:

Hi, according to the manual you short pind 3 and 6 ,

Pin 1 is the first pin next to the notch ,

Good Luck

Joe, Did you also make the Partition Active when you made it and then Formatted and "sysed it? Did you unzip the DST file while up under Windows? You can do the prep on the Main Harddrive in your laptop computer when it is blank, go to your PC with a the NB to PC IDE Adapter, unzip the DST file, put it into the laptop and boot into DOS, do the Service Tag delete and reset, and then clear the drive before starting OS install. I did my Harddrive setup on a small capacity older drive too small(1.6gb) for much else, as I wanted to keep it for future use, but using the main drive in your laptop this way is also eminently workable.

Ididmyc600! thanks for your reply, but my services tag ends with 595B and the laptop has no CD drive or Floppy drive and I don't seam to be able to find this "24LC04... " chip can you help?

If 3/6 pins do not work, try 4/6 and 4/5. In case of some doubt , the pins are numbered Counterclockwise around the chip starting with 1 in the lower left corner and 8 in the upper left as you look at the chip with the type number right side up

Hi All,

Seems that maybe the site and the help are getting through to everyone at last as the post's seem to be slowing down, the site has had over 600 hits and I have spent the evening (yes it was to cold whilst I was away so I came back early) doing an overhaul on the site, it's a bit clearer now,

Take a look

Is this guy on commission ?, The forum is to help people by giving advice, not sending them to a site where they have to pay money for that advice.

Nearly every post he has have done has this link to Dellpass, dont believe me check this link to his other posts
https://www.techspot.com/vb/search.php?searchid=820075

Please stop posting the link, it is included in the new website I have put up and if people want to buy the guide then they can do.

I understand thay you feel that you have a crusade to go on and you have made your point previously in this forum, but now it is time to stop,

Thank you

Bios Password Or Admin Password

Hi everyone !!

Im new here.. i has big problem with my laptop
I've got a Dell Latitude D610 . I need to reset the BIOS password or Admin password.

the cd-roms will not boot from the cd... it was locket in the bios..

i've already called dell 5 times, and each time they say sorry !!

Does anyone have any info on reseting this password???

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/judslat/paragon/
Follow the directions to make a DOS bootable Harddrive with the DST.Zip files unzipped/Extracted ALL to it. OR you can use the link to make a DOS bootable USB 2.0 Memory Key with the DST .Zip file, if that is not also disabled or locked out in BIOS. The HDD method is the best as that can not be locked out if the computer works with windows at all.

Tips very good or bad ?

Hello tutti quanti,

I read this tips ..

Piquant et génial heureux

Je vous laisse découvrir dans sa version original ce post !

nope... you don't have to do that... just gotta jumper pin 3 and pin 6 on the "24c02", or "24u05", or the "24c164" or whatever chip resides in the location marked "upw1" (i think it stands for "unremovable password" lol) at least that's what it was on my D500... You really have to do some looking for it, mine was behind the PCMCIA slot.. only had to take the K*Y, one heatsink, and the pcmcia slot off.. then lift back the plastic, Carefully soldier wires to pin 3 and 6, then route them outside (i went through the fan opening), then put it all back together. then press the power button, short the wires for 2 seconds, then it "should" say "***Manufacturing Mode - Level [1]*** Press Fn-X to return to normal mode" then when you see this, press F2, after bios comes up, press ESC, choose "Save and exit" then reboot... if "manufacturing mode" still comes up press Fn-X and it will exit that mode. you may have to mess with it a few times, but don't leave the wires shorted for more than 2 seconds. "the first time i did it i got a overheating warning, and it was gonna be shut down.. don't worry bout that, you've come this far, try it again... it actually came up for me by doing the following
Step 1. press power.
Step 2. short wires 2 seconds.
Step 3. disconnect wires, wait 2 seconds.
Step 4. short wires again for 2 seconds,
Step 5. disconnect and wait for "Maintenance Mode" text.
Step 6. Hit F2
Step 7. Hit ESC, Choose save and exit
Step 8. Enjoy your unlocked Laptop (with NO service Tag)

ok... got that straigtened out.. but now it says "service Tag:Not Installed" in the bios, so it will not let you save a new admin or configure password, but you can lock the harddrive, so good enough. (i can just imagin that call to dell support. "What's the service tag number?", "It says 'not installed'", "WTF, How'd you do that????") LMFAOTIPMP

Whats that all about

Title says it all .... :haha:

But yes it is good advice, theres plenty more on offer in the forum if you have a good read through.

AC power? Patients a virtue?

Hi @ all.

I have a Dell Latitude c610 with the grey screen on every boot, will not boot from cd or hdd etc.

I have tried everything I have read on this forum. I have completely disassembled the notebook, found the 240cxx chip and shorted the pins 3/6 3/7 4/6 4/7 and nearly every other combination I can think of.
I get varying results, from no power up (just power light coming on) when short applied before boot on any combination of pin's; to powering off at the flashing cursor in the top left of screen after fan coming on when applied at any stage through the boot up loading bar.
I have tried most stuff on here ranging form message #116, #212-#277, #313, #346, #602 ect ect. From rapidly pressing the power button to cycle power to holding the button on for 1-8 sec.

I don’t give up easily and im not gonna give up on this one.

Do I need to have the notebook plugged into AC power when im trying to short the pins or does it not matter?

I know there are no instructions or set rule to this science but in short im getting closer to that 'doorstop' time.

Any help greatly appreciated. My email if neededemail removed

Thanks all, gr8 forum...

You definitely need the AC adapter plugged in. Try this technique; use pin Pairs 4/6 or 4/5 alternatively. Power on and then short at times varying from immediately to as long as 6 seconds and hold your short until the laptop shuts down(early), continues to a grey Password screen (late), or comes up with the Manufacturing Mode screen which persists("Sweet Spot" & HOME!!). I cleared 5 Inspiron 8000 boards in a single afternoon with this technique; the chip on those is the same as yours and in the same location.

Thanks for your speedy reply Paragon33!

I have tried your suggestions to no avail...

I feel I have a fairly good knowledge of electronic principles, I can’t really see where im goin wrong. I wonder why this one just wont have it

Anyway I ordered another chip/EPROM (24C02) from RS Components. The S08 surface mount type is discontinued in there stock catalogue so I have the DIP8 package on the way and I plan to solder fly leads to the board and conceal the DIP8 chip under the DIMM cover somewhere. For 75p inc delivery & VAT it's worth a try IMO, bit cheaper than the £24.99 some ebay sellers are asking for...

I presume I can install the new chip and use the boot up CD/DVD I have made in preparation with your .zip files on it and go from there to write the new service tags.
Will I be able to access the BIOS to change the boot order having installed the new chip? Obviously there will be no service tags but also no password/s so it should go to Manu Mode right...?
Is there any procedure the chip needs to go through before being installed or with the notebook do it all?

Also can you email me the doc you have as instructions to writing new service tags?

Many thanks in advance :grinthumb

Glad to hear that yet again we have been of help to someone,

As for the HD yes its a dead un . oh well they can be got cheap enough from Ebay,

Just out of interest how did you get the password clear, ?

Let us know it, it helps others...

Pure chance

By pure chance tbh, I just kept trying it on random pins at random times through the boot screen (as suggested by paragon33). I shorted at the start of the boot on pins 3/6&7 simultaneously with my paper clip about 1 sec after pressing the power button for about 1 sec, then took the short off and on again a few times thro boot and held it on when on the flashing cursor screen... then lone behold

**** manufacturing mode level 1 ****
Press Fn-x to continue

or something like that.

I think it’s down to chance when you apply the short thro boot screen; you seem to just have to get it at the exact right moment to clear the chip.

Just need a HD now... are all laptop HD drives the same connection as I have a Mitac 6130 (old) notebook that i could try the drive in or the dell drive in it. I would like to be sure the HD is dead and it’s not a problem with the notebook itself before spending any money on a new one. It'll be a Linux live CD machine untill HD gets sorted out.

Jud, did you mention you had a NB HD, I have emailed you about it.

Big thanks to you anyway guys, this forum and your web site is a blessing for seemingly dead dells. Plus i have parted with no money to remove the password from my machine! That’s what it’s all about! :grinthumb
