Dell BIOS Password Removal

Hi people, so if you have anything -595B, you will have to short the password chip, the chip is usually by AMTEL 24Cxxxx something like that, it's located in some weird location like under the dock videocard, or bottom side of the motherboard, under the PCMCIA slots, you will have to locate it, it's a chip with 8 legs, and you will have to use a paperclip to short 3-6 or 4-5 or 4-6. Never, never and never touch the pin 8, what I did was I have a very small tiny piece of tap over leg 8, so i will never touch it, the reason behind is that leg 8 (VCC) provides voltage to the chip, shorting it mean killing your board. (as said from http://homepage.ntlworld.com/judslat/paragon/)

Now I have a question, I have no idea how to reset the Service Tag, I use the DST file but it doesn't reset it, so now my Dell doesn't have a service tag. Funny.. screw Dell for having me to wait 30-60 days for transfer for giving me the master password; sometimes I think warranty is useless. This Dell has like a total of 900 days Next Business Day Warranty for nothing.

When you run the software it will ask if you want to reset the tag, choose ,No

Then run Asset.com located in the files

type ( I think)
asset /s (your tag) and press enter,. this is a one time only option once set you cannot change it without reshorting the chip.

I really must practice a bit more with the software I supply,

Paragon is away poorly at the moment so bear with me,,, he's the expert, I am just the pupil.

Right one quick play with the DST files later

Run the DST file, choose no to reset the tag, wait till the FD section finishes

at the prompt type
asset /s your tag,

I did choose to reset mine at the start and then entered a blank service tag this meant that no tag was set.
I then run asset and enter my tag in the following way, (my tag is #8G1T90J-595B)
ASSET /S 8G1T90J

Asset.com then reported the tag as above..

Let me know where you fail if you do and I'll go and play again.

new to the forum...so here goes....I have an Inspiron 5150 and cannot get past the boot screen. I get the exact same screen as in the picture at the http://www.dellpassword.net.ms/ website and when I try to enter a pass 3 times the comp shut off. The service tag is GZRZP41 and the express service code is 36991848673. I cannot boot the with cd-rom or the usb and i do not have a floppy...somoene please help!...thanks

Your in the right place, first does your tag in D35B as shown on the grey screen ?
If so then go to the site below and grab the password generator
If not then you will need to paper clip the machine, all the info is on the site below and in this forum, including a method to actually read the EEPROM and recover the password.
Let us know if you need any further advice, were here 24 /7 (ish)

thank you for your reply...unfortunately, the tag is gzrzp41-a95b...i guess i have to go along with the paper clip method...i emailed paragorn and he sent me a pdf file and it says the 5100 series has the chip on the back side of the motherboard , close to DRAM slots and to short circuit the 24c164 chip during booting...i am pretty much a n00b to lappies and was wondering if there is anyway someone can direct me exactly to that chip before i mess up the comp and what does the 24c164 mean?

You need to look on the motherboard (either on the top or underneath, this means stripping it down completley) and locate the chip marked 24cXXX, a picture of the chip is on the website in my tag.

Please read the site fully and this thread as well as many of the questions are answered here.

I cant get the cd iso to work, it downloads as a zip but i cannot open the zip, it says its corrupted, then looking at the filename, i though you probably need to rename it to an .iso and burn it as it, but that didnt work and i have a new coaster

Help D300

I've torn my Latitude D300 apart to paperclip. I have looked all over the board and can not find the chip. Is it possibly labeled some other way.

Yep just tested it and its corrupt , give us a min to re-up the file.

OK... I did re-up it and it corrupted again so I have done a bit of tinkering and it will now download as "dstcdr.zip" its the same file, I will look into renaming it if I need to but not now.

If you still show DST-CDR.ISO.zip when you try to download it , hold down the shift key and press F5 a few times to refresh the page.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 and i tore mine apart and found my chip underneath the wireless card slot enclosed in some kind of black casing. Don't know it this will help u much, but just sharing cause i had a hard time finding my chip too. I had to cut open the black casing and the chip was inside it. Sorry i couldn't be of more help.

D300 help

I found the chip its actually under the CPU. Any ideas on how to jump it and boot at the same time. The CPU has to be in to boot.

are you sure that's the right chip? it would be very difficult to short if it's under the cpu, you can hardwired on the back of the chip (back of your mb)

D300 Help

Its difinately the chip. I cant jump it from the back the MB is multiple layers. My only guess is to solder a jumper wire put the chip back in and turn it on, unfortunately my soldering skills suck.

Thats exactly what you have to do i'm afraid.
Practice soldering first, there is no other way.

Open the memory cover and its just inside the edge of the plastic lip, the best bet is to use a shorter as shown on the site in my tag as it will make life easier if however you still can't find it, I have a pic and if you email me using the link on the site in my tag I will send it to you.

D3000 Help

Once I solder the jumper and power on the computer. Should I shut it off when the screen comes up, or should I go into BIOS and turn anything off?

For the C610 short the wires as it boots for about 3 seconds, if that doesnt work try shorting straight after power on.

The thing with the shorting method is to try and try, some people get it first time, with myself it was a combination of short during power on from 3 -7 seconds, then remove the PSU and short whilst rapidly pressing the power button about twenty times, there is no sure method only perserverance and persistence.

Good luck,

By the way some of you are still emailing Paragon for the files, I think Paragon is a bit ill at the present so if you need any of the files you can find them all on the site in my tag.

D300 Help

Should it be a black screen when i get the jumper or should it look like the normal dell boot screen. I soldered what should be 3 & 6, but all I get is a black screen. I tried 2 & 5 and it just boots to the password screen.

D300 no more help

I finally got it. I had to install a small rip cord to my soldered short. Once I turned on the computer I got a black screen. I pulled the rip cord broke my jumper and rebooted into manufacturer mode. This has been an experience that I would like to get. Dell Sucks.

Sorry I have been out of things for a while in the Hospital. The easiest way to ground the EEProm Chip on the Latitude CP, CPiD or CPiA and clear it, is to solder one wire only to pin # 6, reinstall the CPU/Integral Circuit Board, ground the other end of the wire to a grounded point on the board and then power on. After getting the Manufacturing Mode Screen, remove the CPU once more, cut the wire free with dikes, then reassemble the machine and run the DST Diskette to change and reset your original Service Tag
