I really need some help with the Dell latitude D520. i have posted up in here but i guess Rustam is a very busy person. There seems to be not much info on this systems eeprom chip or where it is situated on the Motherboard so the shorting method can be counted out. Thanks to Paragon and his help but i cant boot from cd rom, floppy or usb stick. Sooo... what to do next.. I seen dadme has his praise answered.lol. i guess im facing a situation where this laptop will be a very expensive door stopper. If anyone can help with this problem i have will be much appreciated..

Thanks in Advanced..

I have a C620, I believe the HD is locked. I guess I'll give up on getting the data back. If I install a new drive, is there a problem reloading the OS? Will that solve the password problem?

Thanks for the help!

Hi

I have same problem with Latitude D820. I've found only one EEPROM - SST25LF080A. I'm not sure it is what i should look for and i don't know which pins should i short. Any hints?

Datasheet can be found here: http://www.sst.com/products.xhtml/serial_flash/25/SST25LF080A

Thanks,
emde

May be this will help you get an idea. its for a Latitude D800 which I think has the same board as the 820. Good Luck! Let me know if it works!

What is a C620? no such dell exist. You should remove the drive from the laptop and then run the DST software to Change/Delete and then reset your Service Tag before you install your new blank drive into it. That will erase the EEProm Chip and insure you do not have HDD PW "ghosts" hanging around. It will not clear the HDD Password however. If the data on the drive is crucial and it is NOT an IBM or Hitachi, this linked service can clear the password but not the files for about $50

A D820 DOES NOT use the same board as a D800 and you can not short the eeprom chip on the 820. It uses a 25 series chip and they do not respond to the shorting method

what about the D800 is it the same as the D820. or can you still short the D800? sorry I tough they could use the same board.

Hi guys; I'm not sure if any of you can help...

I have a Dell Optiplex GX620 that has a Windows XP O/S loaded; I bought Vista and went to set it up only to find that I can't set up anything as the machine's BIOS is preventing such an act. I can access the BIOS, but it has an administrator's password setup which I wasn't given when I purchased the PC (and didn't know I would ever need it).

Calls to Dell's 'help'line have been a totally fruitless task, because they only have the power and information to help the initial purchaser of the machine.

Can anyone help with accessing the BIOS of an Optiplex GX620 to make relevant changes?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

YEAH I’m proud to announce that the shorting method WORKS! on a dell latitude D800.

Thanks to everybody specially MR. P for emailing back.

I am in the s**t

Hi I have a dell latitude D820 notepad. My son thinks he is a computer wizz kid, messed about with the windows and bios passwords. when the laptop is booted up it is asking me for the bios password. Because he has tried to enter passwords in a number of times It will not let me press F2 to get to the bios settings. I have tried to put in my XP disc and over wite but the boot up hits this password first and thats as far as it goes. I have took the thing to bits took the watch cell battery out and shorted it, cannot find any jumpers on the motherboard, does a laptop have them? Tried to boot it back up and still the same. Spoke to Dell but the warrenty does not include what my soon has done.
Is the next thing a new motherboard?
Thanks in advance for you help and surgestions.

I think that your best bet would be to call dell if you are the original owner. If not i dont know what else to say. I just unlocked a D800 but now I the hardrive is locked as well.

This link should help you clear the bios on a optiplex gx620..

http://digitaltechspecialists.com/Manuals/USER_GX620/index.htm

Theres a jumper labeled PSWD situated next to the battery that you can take off which should clear the bios password.. more details on the site... hope it helps..

Okay people who are interested in the exact chip you need to short. I will show you a detailed layout of where its located on your motherboards for any d600, d610, d620 dell laptop. Its true that the password protected system can only be reset by shorting the eeprom chip located on the motherboard due to its hardware feature built into these specific laptops as well as all later model dells from here on out. The D-series and beyond are protected with a computrace anti-theft security system which is by default activated and for anyone on this site who wants to pretend they have a legit dell laptop more power to you but come on, theres too many threads of the exact same excuse to be considered true. Nevertheless, I could care less no doubt and will willingly say right now FTP f-the-police. Long story short, I will help anyone needing advice on this problem with having myself done this procedure honestly over a couple dozen times. It seems like all my friends have oh my god, Locked out Dell D600's, they all forget their passwords, wow, imagine that.LOL So anyone can email me if they like, and I will give you a buzz back with what compensation I will do this deed for, which is fair enough being self proclaimed expert now at this...I just will need one thing from any takers of my offer beside what I mention above, and thats a detailed high resolution picture of the problemed laptop (bottom side) with the factory shell removed, and all hardware that would prevent viewing the bottom of motherboard. Once this is sent to me I will map out and high light the exact chip needing to be jumped, exact pin location, and what steps have to be conducted once the board is shorted to make the board operate correctly again and complete the problem resolved. Just one good pic and some kind of thanks is all I need and I will help the many. At least until I get kicked off this forum or I am arrested by the dell police....ha ha right hilarious though aint it? you can email me at email removed since its my cell phone email or call me at 702-443-3712 and leave a message on what my thanks will be for doing this for you and when you are planning on sending me a pic. I will not answer this phone but will check email twice a week or so until someone tries to infiltrate my identity too close cause once thats done I am gone forever people, so remember that wannabe pigs, I am just helping the people is all.

PS For all who think the latitude.exe software is bull, a word of advice to potential people I help, you will need this program, and you will need it in a bootable floppy or CD format to complete the password removal process, so find this software now peeps, its somewhere in this forum already....

And so I will wait my minyins, and see who appreciates my straight forward approach to helping mankind. And no not a cop, I hate a pig...

can any1 confirm this is the chip? if so i will get pics up asap ive searched what i found on the chip and i came back with : SST’s 25 series Serial Flash family features a four-wire, SPI-compatible interface that allows for a low pin-count package which occupies less board space and ultimately lowers total system costs. The SST25VF080B devices are enhanced with improved operating frequency and even lower power consumption than the original SST25VFxxxA devices. SST25VF080B SPI serial flash memories are manufactured with SST’s proprietary, high-performance CMOS SuperFlash technology. The split-gate cell design and thick-oxide tunneling injector attain better reliability and manufacturability compared with alternate approaches. The SST25VF080B devices significantly improve performance and reliability, while lowering power consumption. The devices write (Program or Erase) with a single power supply of 2.7-3.6V for SST25VF080B. The total energy consumed is a function of the applied voltage, current, and time of application. Since for any given voltage range, the SuperFlash technology uses less current to program and has a shorter erase time, the total energy consumed during any Erase or Program operation is less than alternative flash memory technologies. The SST25VF080B device is offered in both 8-lead SOIC (200 mils) and 8-contact WSON (6mm x 5mm) packages. See Figure 1 for pin assignments

come on guys help each other out and we might get into these

if any1 can help me out feel free to pm me and i'll add you on my msn
If you have a clear pic of bottom of your laptop and do still need help I will show you the exact chip. I might be too late being now in august but its the thought that counts right? LOL let me know and I will gladly help for the good of humans & wannabe techs alike.....
