Does the Nvidia App Hurt Performance? We Benchmarked It.

-It would be interesting to also look at what extra data this app uploads and downloads?

-More importantly, is anyone using the latest Nvidia drivers? What is your experience in general? What are the latest "good" drivers?

No, ty.

I don't like someone's malware running in the background, eating CPU cycles for nothing and harvesting data.

In case you have to use it for some reason, if you use dedicated internet security software, which you should, you should take care to block outbound connections for NVIDIA's malware. This should save you from numerous annoyances, such as unsolicited downloads (the app, if left unchecked, just downloads data all the time hogging one's internet connection) and of course prevent the "app" from transmitting your data back to the Leatherman's servers.
It does have ads, which in general means you shouldn't use it.

Use Reshade for post-processing filters, I use clarity, vibrance, colorfullness, and sometimes a sharpen filter, like adaptive sharpen, makes all games Pop, dxgi in Reshade version 6.7.0 works with most newer games

No it does not. You don't know what you are doing then.
I know exactly what I'm doing, and don't try to convince me it doesn't happen when EVRYTIME I start the game I have to go back in the menu and set the graphics back to DLSS quality and frame gen to 2x.

Has nothing to do with Nvidia App is my guess. Probably a DL2 bug. Or your system is bugged.
And you are 0 for 3.
The software is ignoring all 3 DLSS override settings. And we have tried all the "fixes"

Dying Light 2 is pure trash anyway, so bad. Spent 150+ hours in DL1. 75+ hours in the Expansion but can't get past 10 hours in DL2. So freaking bad. Setting is worse/crap. Combat is 5 steps backwards too. Uninstalling it would be my best recommendation. They failed miserably with this game. Beast is way way better, 10 times better than DL2, got me 50+ hours.
I liked the first a lot more, but it still does not change the fact that what I play is no concern of anyone but me. Even a crybaby.
They knew DL2 was unfixable and just bad.
Does that include the 12GB Breach update from just last week? Which was a huge improvement.

It just rings hollow coming from someone that doesn't have a clue of which they speak.

That is probably why The Beast became a standalone title. They knew DL2 was unfixable and just bad.
Interesting. I also really dislike Dying Light 2 as a game, in fact it's one of my biggest gaming disappointments in the last 10 years, since I loved DL1. You were wise to drop it early. I've put over 30 hours on DL2 hoping it would improve later on and believe me it doesn't get better, now I'd like a refund for these 30 hours I'll never get back.
After DL2, I had pretty much disowned the franchise and I'd never touch The Beast with a 20 foot pole (since while it was released as a standalone title, I expected it to play more like an expansion/DLC for DL2).
However after reading your post, I might consider giving The Beast a chance eventually.

Try it now after the Breach update from last week.

The problem is that for me, DL2 is fundamentally bad in a level that no amount of patching or updates could fix, aside from a full remake from the ground up, preferably by a different studio. I don't doubt that the updates since I've played the game a couple years ago might have improved things somewhat, but I see this as polishing a turd. So unless this update is on the level of a full remake, excuse me if I'm skeptical that this last update will make the game good enough for me. I might give it another chance one day if I'm bored and out of things to play, but if I'm not impressed by the end of my first sitting I'm out.

I get it, but I played through again just to check out the Breach update. Graphics noticeably better, yet a bit of a performance gain. That long drawn out opening to the game has been cut and it's not long until you end up in the main game.
The user maps are fun as hell and there is a lot of them.
They have microtransactions now, but getting cash in game hasn't changed.
It is even more difficult than DL1 but what I like is the endless swarm of zombies when fighting a horde is toned way down. We can actually clear a horde now.

I don't want to leave the impression it's a great game like the first, it's not.
But I always thought it was still good, and now it's better in my opinion.

Also, I should say I have a fondness for Zombies.
Games and movies so that may play a part in my opinion of it.

Wait, the Nvidia App has ads? I have yet to see it. If this is true, why wasn't that brought up in the article?
Mine not only has ads. I get pop up window notifications. I got one for the cringejob of a james bond game. It's not often, once or twice a month I'm estimating. But the app itself also has ads if you open it.

DL1 + Expansion, awesome games yeah. Masterpiece.

I played DL2 for 10 hours, over 3 times (installed, uninstalled, installed, uninstalled repeat, because I wanted it to be good but it never became good)

DL2 has the worst story I have ever seen in a game I think. Main story feels like a bunch side quests slammed together. No likeable characters. Repeatable crap missions all over, with medals, so boring.

Absolutely get The Beast instead on sale. It is almost as good as DL1 and the spinoff, but shorter.

I am actually blown away how bad DL2 is, compared to DL1. They took everything from DL1 that was great and worked, and removed it. Usually it is the other way around - you improve things for the follow up.

Lets see if they will make a DL3 or something brand new.

DL2 is crap even with newest patch. Game is unfixable. Setting is pure crap. Game design is meh. Combat got slightly better with patches than launch but still feels overall garbage compared to DL1 and The Following.

You know what you are doing? Had zero problems with Nvidia app changing my settings. I also force DLSS 4.x/DLAA with NPI and force Preset K like a pro.

Crybaby? Thanks for the laugh - you're the one acting upset. CYT.

I agree. Still a good game for those that can handle the difficulty.

DL2 is the only game it happens to. I gave you proof that I'm far from the only one.

Crybaby? Thanks for the laugh - you're the one acting upset.
Upset? Seriously? I and my kids are getting a real kick out of you.
The tears are entertaining. You are truly a legend in your own mind.

I hate Nvidia App because of the way it changes game graphic settings according to whatever algorithm they use. I want to setup my game settings and stay like that until I change them.

Impact on performance, idk I had the app installed for like 5 minutes until I removed it.

That's because you didn't set it up right. Go to Settings and in the Features tab look for a switch that says Automatically optimize newly added games and apps and toggle it OFF

That is when you re-install Windows and have no game installed maybe. For me it changed the settings of games already installed. I had to reset setting for all games and redo settings.
So big no for now, still using older driver and no new app.

Handle the difficulty, hahahaha - The game is easy even on the hardest diff what you talking about. Game is just garbage. Hence why reviews are Mixed on Steam and the game is on massive sale right now, due to not selling. Worst Techland game ever.

Keep whining and keep wasting your time playing a shitty game, no-one cares.

Mixed means pretty much 50-50.
And you obviously have not played it in any depth.

Oh, and the Nvidia App does change game settings in DL2.

Dying Light 2 is Techlands worst game by far and that is a fact, garbage reviews, both professional and users reviews are mediocre. Keep telling yourself you did not waste your money. Bad story, bad setting, bad gameplay, everything is worse than DL1.

Even most fans of their games hate DL2.

DL1, The Following and The Beast are objectively much better games.

Tons of people refunded DL2 during launch week. Game felt like a downgrade. DL1 sold far better overall.

There is a reason Techland ditched DL2 and went for The Beast instead. DL2 was and still is a total failure.

I saw plenty in the 10 hours in the game and I saw videos and proof enough to know the game would continue to suck. Luckily it was free.

Wrong. Dead Island Riptide gets that trophy. THAT is the fact.
And DL2 has come along from disaster. Example is Steam reviews were universally negative on launch. Now the review aggregate is mixed. That's a lot of progress.
Not No Mans Sky progress. Still....... It really isn't nearly as bad as 4 years ago.

They used to, I was one of them.

Yes.

Well then they had a major change of heart. Many updates, then the 20 gig Breach update last week says they abandoned nothing.

I saw plenty in the 10 hours in the game
No you didn't. Never even scratched the surface. Its taken 2 and a half months but Im 96 hours in and haven't even uncovered half the map.
You barely got out of the prologue.

Oh, and the Nvidia App does change game settings in DL2.

Nah, even the medciore Dead Island Riptide have positive reviews on Steam. DL2 is Mixed and hence worse.

Looking at RECENT REVIEWS for DL2; Mixed. Means game did not improve much. People still hate it. Hence the massive sale. It does not sell. People refund it even for 10 bucks.

DL2 sucked on launch and still suck. Settings is terrible. Colors are dull and crap. They even removed the colorfilters from DL2 = Downgrade from launch.

DL2 is vastly worse than DL1.
The Following looks like DL3 compared to DL2.

The Breach update you talk about, is made from community modders. Developers have moved on long ago. Hence why the Beast was a standalone title. Vastly superior to DL2. They went back to the roots with the Beast. Its like a masterpiece compared to DL2.

You must suck at games. DL2s main story can be done in like 20 hours. Entire game with side quests can be done in less than 50 hours. Are you doing the boring repeatable missions over and over? Then you have content for the rest of your life. Hahah!

Some of us don't die all the time, even tho hardest difficulty is always chosen. In my 10 hours I was over half way thru main story and boy it sucked so hard. Saw the ending on video and glad I did not keep playing. Worst game in the last 10 years.

I think you may not be getting it.
I used the Rapob method. I said it, so now it is true for everyone.

Looking at RECENT REVIEWS for DL2; Mixed
It honestly improved immensely. Its one thing to run from the begining with mixed.
But to go from the original review aggregate and boost it to even mixed takes some good scores.

DL2 is vastly worse than DL1.
Just worse.

The Breach update you talk about, is made from community modders.
I dont even care if it was made by you. Cluelessness and all.
You obviously didnt read the latest reviews. 2 or 3 years ago, or even since the last update.

You must suck at games
Because I like a game you don't? Damn man, what a baby!

Some of us don't die all the time, even tho hardest difficulty is always chosen. In my 10 hours I was over half way thru main story
I posted that comment on the DL boards, and it got interesting responses through the morning. Pretty much all involved the word liar.

I played the game about 7-8 months after release, and I'm playing it now, 4 years later.
You played 10 hours and got "halfway through" 😂
That is why your opinions strike me as so humorous because you are the purest example of the classic phrase regarding not having a clue what you are talking about.

So. I ask you, what do you hate about the game now, 4 years after you put in all of 10 hours?

Oh, and the Nvidia App does change game settings in DL2.
