Hi,

Today I got a HP Omnibook XE3. Unfortunately a BIOS boot password is set. The System Hashcode is 13794. I would be very thank full could someone help me access the BIOS.

100 Thanx....!!!!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 with the eprom chip 24C04N located under the hard drive tray.
I do not have the power suppy, so I am trying to reset the asset tag using the paperclip method and the battery (not AC). So far I have been unable to complete the process. When the pins are shorted by the paperclip and the power button on the laptop is pressed, the laptop will not turn on till I remove the paperclip.
service tag FZ5N561

has anybody tried the full version of Fastback68... "paper clip" pdf guide?
is that really good?

The only thing extra you get out of that guide is the location of your eprom chip.. It does not give directions on tearing your particular laptop apart.

Need BIOS Master Password for Inspiron 1525, yes it's 595B (gray screen)

I searched the forums and I tried looking for the famous chip to reset, which that laptop doesnt have. It's a 595B so the generator doesn't work. A friend bought it and wanted me to fix it. In case you didnt figure it out we have no idea who the owner was so we cant get Dell to do it. Any one has any insight on this?

Right, so I saw that Paragon33 mentioned that some newer Inspirons can be reset by taking the CMOS battery out. I did that but now I dont know if I should put it back in or leave it off completely after the overnight wait? The later sounds crazy since no BIOS changes will be permanent.

The EEPROM chip seems to be a 25 series one with a huge load of pages of 256 bytes each and no reset capabilities. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

got it. I thought when they closed the other thread we needed to create a new one per issue.

Thank you for your prompt reply,
Moderator can you remove this thread? You really don't need more clutter, I replied to the above mentioned thread

Thank you,

I posted a new thread on the forum and was told to rather do it here, so...

So, after scouring the web some more, and still having no luck finding a way to get access to my Inspiron 700m, I've decided to try transferring the ownership on the Dell site. I can't do so from the international form since it requires the full name + e-mail of the original owner, which I don't have, so I've decided to try it through the US form using an American friend's information.

Unfortunately, unless you're able to access the form from the computer you're transferring... so that it can confirm your service tag, it makes you provide the name of the original owner. If you're on the computer you're transferring, you don't need the original owner's info... but because of the BIOS password, I'm locked out! kimsland, or other gurus, are you aware of any way around this? Will their phone support have pity on me and let me transfer ownership as long as I'm willing to pay their fee, or am I pretty much screwed here?

Thanks!

Dell have done it before, without knowledge of original owner
It is a matter of calling and calling until they finally say, "Oh here have it then !!!"
Yes, they have done this with owners before, I think it depends on how loud and upset (not angry) you are, and they don't like being pestered all the time

What about changing the motherboard, I looked it up and told my friend that for about $260 he can get a new board. Would that work to fix the Inspiron 1525?

8600 Masterpassword (No 24C02!)

Attention, it follows a Google translation:

My Wife bought a Dell Latitude 8600 (last Year!!) on a Fleamarket.
He was cheap (the Laptop, not my Wife!) because no HDD was built in.
The owner said that his data would not be wanted. My wife believed him
(big mistake!).

HDD bought, built in (and long sought an adapter), then the GreyScreenOfDeath!
What's happening? The search on the Internet has shown some.

Here's the result:
There is NO 24CXXX built, but there exists an EEPROM 93C46.
PaperClipTrick therefore does not?

I tried to use latitude.exe but this is not workin' (-595B).

I will not be with Dell after the master password questions,
we are not the registered users.

We have bought a new HDD, i have dozens of hours invested,
thousends of posts read. ZERO success, i do not know anymore!
One year, with ever new, unsuccessful attempts...

Thank you for your help!

Thank-you sara6, you are one of the first (ironically) to share this password to help others.

Sadly the password is unique to your computer and Serial, so I do not believe it will help others anyway. But at least you have tried to help :grinthumb

I think this info deserves to be here as well (it was posted by me in another thread)

For use with Dell computers

SvcTag.exe
Asset.com

Using Asset.com from a BootDisk

Create a Floppy BootDisk, here are some to use
If you do not have a Floppy Drive use a BootCD instead, here is one
Here is some info on its creation

Copy the file "Asset.com" to the new Bootdisk
Start your computer with the boot disk in the drive
Confirm your system bios is set for Floppy or CD as first boot device (depending upon what disk you created)
Allow the disk to be started and eventually to a command line
You should see a prompt, such as A:\> This is the command prompt.

Here are some usages of Asset.com

ASSET new_asset_tag Specify new asset tag
ASSET /d Delete asset tag
ASSET /o new_owner_tag Specify new owner tag (if applicable)
ASSET /o /d Delete owner tag (if applicable)
ASSET /? This help screen

Hidden Options:

ASSET /s new_service_tag Specify new service tag
ASSET /s /d Delete service tag
ASSET /b Specify new system board tag
system board tag must be "ssssssssssssssssssss-vvv-", where
s..s is the 20 digit system board Part number string,
vvv is the 3 digit system board rev,
- is a don't care character, but must be present
ASSET /b /d Delete system board tag
ASSET /f [other_options] Force Affirmative response
ASSET /x [other options] eXtended display - displays all tags

Here is a Bootdisk all made up with Asset.com and other Dell utilities (ie nothing to do, except burn the ISO to CD)

Edit:

This will not remove any Dell password
